So im getting dual exhaust for chirstmas and I was wondering what would probably be the best. I dont want anything to expensive. I was thinking that the pypes violaters would be a good fit but was unsure. Any sugestions???

everyone's gonna have a totally different opinion.
a friend of mine had the local muffler shop fab a custom dual setup through flow o.g. 40's, it sounds pretty good but too obnoxious for me. I personally like the flow 50s better.
I'm getting gt takeoffs for mine because I just want a little more rumble and breathability.
The list goes on and on and everything has its pros and cons, but go to youtube and search for 4.0 dual exhausts and find what YOU like best.

go for the Violators if ya love drone. I like the Pypes true dual conversion with GT take offs. But everyone is different. The violators sounded like rice, the drone was unbearable. It was not just loud, it was a bad loud. Some people like the stinger type with the X pipe. It really comes down to you, and what you prefer.

I had a shop when I was stationed in Cali hook me up with dual flowmaster super 40's. The drone was ridiculous, but after a while, it settled down. Love the sound! My wife can hear me coming 2 streets down LOL.

on my wifes V6 we have the Pypes mid muffler setup with a shop made H pipe. It sounds good. I think it might sound better with a X though.
I have a rattle around 2000rpms through the console area...dont know why....the system went on easy....I need to get it back on the lift and look it over.
We have had the stock GT mufflers on it which sound real good but not agressive enough....the Pypes Violators which was too raspy........ and straight pipes which was just nasty sounding.

$300 gets you a Pyprs true dual conversion w/GT take offs. That's a great place to get started. I like the way the X pipe makes the car sound and the GT take offs squealch the bad sounds. It could be louder, but my wife loves the sound, now. When I first pulled the violators off she was pissed because she said it was too quiet. But I took her 50 feet behind the car and revved it, then she figured it out. Quiet inside doesn't have to mean quiet outside. It sounds good outside and inside it doesn't sound like ass.

that's the great thing about cars, and modding your own car. Everyone likes something different, and swapping parts out and experimenting is fun.

Before I did the V8 swap, I was running my V6 with an open y-pipe. Sounded badass.

I'd just buy some SLP loud mouths and have a muffler shop weld up a system for you. Keep the Y pipe, the increased exhaust velocity is what makes it sound so good.

it took a while looking, but I found an e-bay guy who sold me the kit less mufflers for $200. All you need is the X-pipe, 2 over axle pipes and a couple clamps. Go to Pypes website, see what it would cost.

it's pypes product number SFM65 (found some on ebay); BUT with shipping that's almost as expensive as the kit WITH the axle backs from newtakeoff.com

shipping is shipping. There is one box almost 6' by 2' by 2'. And one 1' by 2' by 3'. The shipping should be less without the mufflers. The mufflers can be bought locally usually for almost nothing.

I got my mufflers for free locally :)
Matter of fact i've got another set of GT-m takeoffs that I also acquired for free lol

So You just need to look in the right place and do some diggin.

I plan on buying mac flowpaths at some point.

Oh and I only paid 110 dollars for my duals.......muffler shop used mandrel bends and everything.

Just takes some shopping around to find the best prices with good quality, if you're patient then you will be rewarded :)

I've posted this before, hope this helps:

Getting the true GT sound is impossible. We don't have V8s. That's just an unavoidable fact. Nonetheless, you can still make it sound good.

For the brand of pipes (the ones that go over the axle), I'd try to find a takeoff part from a GT. Others have used WALKER Part # 55248 with success. I'm getting ready to buy some Roush muffler delete pipes from a local guy.

As for size, stay with the stock 2.5 inch system. The simple fact is that the only cars really big enough to handle a 3" system are modded GT500s and heavily modded GT's. Going with a larger size will only hurt your power because of a loss of backpressure. It should go without saying that you don't need to go with a smaller pipe.

If by "from the cats back" you mean ditching the Y pipe, DO IT. Otherwise, you don't have true dual exhaust and the sound/power that comes with it.

As for mufflers, there is no set "best kind." A lot of it is all in your taste. Popular choices are the GTBs (the mufflers off of the Bullitt Mustangs), GTAs (the ones off of the Shelby GTs), Pypes Violators, American Thunders, and so on. Pretty much whatever is popular among the GT crowd is popular among the V6 crowd. However, I've found that GTAs and GTBs are NOT cheap. Try to find a used set if possible. Check the classifieds of this site, it's an amazing resource for the parts you need.

I'm in the process of putting my setup together.

I'm more of a sound guy, so I went with an H pipe. Generally, the H produces a deeper sound, but at the cost of a very small amount of horsepower (tiny, really, 1-3 HP). I bought it off a person on here, actually. Like I said earlier, I'm going with a set of Roush muffler deletes that I'll be buying (hopefully) this week.

If you want easy, go with a kit. I suggest either the Pypes or FRPP kits. The FRPP is more expensive, but I've never seen one complaint about it. The Pypes is less expensive, but I've heard problems with fitment issues, as well as drone at cruising RPMs. I've got a friend at school who has had no problem at all with his. It's a crap shoot, really.

If not, do what I did, and piece together your system over time. It'll be cheaper, but more work in the long run. It'll also take time.

I've got a set of GT500 mufflers that I haven't put on yet, let me know if you want them. We could work out a deal.

As far as clamps go (you're going to need these, unless you're going to weld), go to RockAuto and search for GT clamps. They're like a dollar apiece. I bought the clamp for the midpipe to the overaxle pipe off of a forum member here. The part you need is Ford Part #4R3Z-5A231-AA. Otherwise, get some GT takeoffs.

Hopefully this helps. I've researched my duals on my old car for...God, I think it was seven or eight months.

This is just my .02 I had a shop make me a custom h pipe and I bought gt takeoff mufflers off craigslist. But I also went to americanmuscle.com and bout two cutouts so when I want it loud it's loud. If you have any questions or want to hear it I have YouTube vids. Just search my username tview07golf and that should take you to them. Again just my .02. I personally love the way it sounds with both open cutouts and when they are capped and flowing through the GT Takeoffs.

I had magnaflows w/stock cats no mid pipe just straight pipes, sounded awsome. I actually just had my gf's 09 v6 done with the pypes m-80 mid muffler dual exhaust, ill post some pics and vid clips of what it sounds like. Oh and you will need two more exhaust hangers for the driver side to make it happen.
