I picked up a new 2009 gt500 flywheel and a used single disk clutch with plenty of life left in it. I also have a Kevlar disc with a 26 spline hub to use as a replacement.

I'm wondering how well the early 2008-9 GT500 clutches worked? I'm about to kick the power level up some and might need a stouter clutch which is why I picked up the clutch and flywheel. I figure that the stock unit will work well with the stock slave cylinder.

smoke some of that legal recreational weed, lol, it might help you. at least you're productive with it, i used to have buddies like you who just used it as an excuse to get into trouble and do stupid things.

There were lots of issues with the early GT500 clutches. Just about everyone local to me has settled on the MacLeod RXT twin disk for S197 supercharged GT's and GT500's. The downtime and PITA of clutch changes in these cars is not worth the cost savings of cobbling something together IMHO.

Keep in mind they're a 26 spline clutch.

Some of the early clutches had problems with the flywheels warping causing engagement/shifting issues. Aside from that, they actually held a fair amount of power, and worked pretty well. They were a little chattery. The best clutches are the '11-14. There were a few updates even then, but they're all pretty good.

I'm running a stock '12 clutch, and it's been holding a ton of power just fine. Considering my race weight is 4000lbs, and I've been beating it up for a year and a half, that's pretty killer.

Ron (94tbird) had one in his car and it started to slip on the dyno around 675-700 IIRC

I'm at approx. 675 to the wheels with drag radials and my original, stock '07 GT500 clutch is fine. But as Sam mentioned, it can be a bit chattery on takeoff.

I have a line on a '10 GT500 takeout clutch and flywheel if you're interested.

How much sir?

$250 plus shipping. It's in excellent shape. Low low mile babied car. I just removed it Sunday. It's getting some major upgrades, including a built motor, and a whole pile of other things.

This is the car, and this is my garage currently:

Makes me want an iron block GT500 to blow the guts out of. What are you shooting for for numbers?

horsepower1 on ebay has the 26 spline replacement clutches saleen used. They are under $50 shipped and brand new.

I came across the gt500 clutch and flywheel by doing a lot of ebay searching. Deals come up if you are ready for them.

The deal Sam has is a very good one imo. Someone will get a very good deal.

I'm just building it for him. I think his goal is 800rwh with a 2.9L. I know it can be done on on the stock motor, but he doesn't want to worry about it breaking.
