Alright,

I've done some searching and there isn't a whole lot of info on the Exedy Mach 400 clutch. What are your impressions? Is it a worth while clutch? Can they hold up to hard driving at the strip and on the street?(mostly street). I've got the normal bolt ons, CAI, Tune, CMCV Deletes, UDP's, Short Throw, LT's so I don't need anything like a Spec 3+ which would be way overkilled for my car, I don't expect to be doing anything else for a while, the next mod will be cams. I'm really leaning towards the Exedy as from what I have seen it is a good and reliable clutch. Is there anything you suggest I look out for? Thanks!

I would guess that the 400 would pretty much have to drive like a factory clutch because I have the 600 and it's only a little stiffer than stock. I have only had it in for a few weeks but so far I am very pleased with it.

+3. i have had mine for about 5000 miles now and love it. feels like stock and holds the power just fine. i have about 20-30 passes on it and i usually get 1.7 short times with it and it hasnt missed a beat. plus it comes with a new TOB so that saves a good bit of money. i highly rec this clutch.

I have 9000 miles on my 500 and echo the above comments. I don't take it to the strip but it did 90 miles around Watkins Glen at up to 150+ with no complaints. Got it from BBR with a flywheel.

well, i may be mistaken, but i thought exedy was the manufacturer of the oem clutch parts, including the slave. i think that's why they're supposed to work so well, without any shims or anything. i'm planning on using the kit just as it comes from bbr. ordered it today.

I have no doubt in the kit, this is what John @ BBR told me after I had voiced some concerns about it though(thanks for all your help by the way John). "The slave cylinder that comes with the kit is a great piece. However, I’d get a Ford OEM throw out bearing. It seems that no matter what, all aftermarket throw out bearings squeak. So, to eliminate that problem, just buy a $12 Ford OWM one". So its not the slave cylinder he is talking about because that isn't $12, more like $120-150, so I was just trying to get a part # for the throw out bearing? I don't see one on the ford break down? Maybe someone can shed some light on this? Thanks

well, i'm confused. i thought the slave cylinder was the throw out bearing in this case. i thought our cars didn't have an actual throw out bearing compared to older models. you're right, we need some clarification on this.

update: i called my local dealer. the parts guy says the slave cylinder/TO bearing is all one unit. no separate part number for the throw out bearing.

I used the slave cylinder provided in the Exedy kit. I was planning to actually get one from Ford until I looked at it very closely side by side with the factory piece. They were identical in every way, even the casting numbers. There was also what appeared to be a manufacturers part number cast into both slaves that matched. The only difference I could find was a Ford part number in ink on the bearing race and the Ford emblem cast into the housing on the factory one. I really believe they are the exact same thing, manufactured by the same company. The only difference being that the one with the Ford emblem and the Ford part number is sent to Ford and the other is sent as aftermarket. I might be wrong but from what I saw, I decided to take my chances with it. So far it has worked fine.

I have the same comment as KDT. If that wasn't the same part as the Ford unit, it was the best Chinese copy I've ever seen! Again, 9000 miles with no issues.
