Hey guys,

Got Kooks LT & off road H on my 09 GT. Was considering some QTP electric cutouts immediately after the H. (& before the 18" resonators if i install them - see below.)

Given that my 'muffler' is a pair of Outlaws would the cutouts be worth my money & trouble to install.

Would a pair of 18" resonators (after the cutouts if i get them) installed 'staggered' help with the drone (i appreciate it wont nullify it but reduce it somewhat) and give me a 'bassier/meatier' rumble?

Thanks a lot,

I wouldn't add the weight, complexity, and cost of cutouts. Every single person I know of who has installed resonators has loved the results.

Which resonators did you pick up and where? I have the outlaws and the drone is killing me.

I used pypes M80 SS resonators.... but not staggered. With the JBA LT's and catted H, and FRPP FRS-500 mufflers on my 2010, it was way too loud , and bad drone. So in went the M80's.... problems solved, but a tiny bit of drone left @ 2 k rpm. I wish I had staggered them at the time I had em welded in..just b4 the rear axle. It would have been easy to do.

I am still looking. I assume 2 1/2 inch for a 2005 GT. The outlaws were not too bad until I put new cats on. I guess the old one were really plugged up. The sound and drone both increased quite a bit after the new cats.

Exhaust Cutout qu & Resonators

Great man please do!

*Remember to install them staggered as that helps with the drone apparently

Exhaust Cutout qu & Resonators

Guys do the resonators dampen the lope from the hotrod cams?

Just watched some vids on youtube & one of them with the hotrods, seemed to completely smother the lopey idle :-(

Edit: never-mind seems the guy had 4 mufflers on his system. Was so quiet there was more noise from the engine bay then the exhaust.

When I had the pair of M80's installed, we 1st sliced off each end in the bandsaw, just a tiny bit inboard of the slots. This shortens the overall length of each resonator. Then had em both welded in. The slots on each end are for installs using the common clamp at each end. I wanted the assy as rigid as I could get, and welding em in was no big deal, done all the time.

Each M80 has this little doughnut ring on the inside, so the rest of the exhaust can be inserted only so far. That 304 SS alloy they use stays shiny forever. Zero problems with em since the install years ago. At the time they were $44.00 each which is cheap for 304 SS...from AM.

I have tried both routes. The cutouts sound great but lasted less than a year before the solenoids froze. Resonators were good but I missed the control of the cutouts. In the end I went with the varex mufflers that are adjustable and I love them. Quite for my wife when closed and loud when open all the way.

I used both qtp and pypes. The qtps lasted a year and a half and the pypes not even a year. I will say I live in new england so our winters are harsher on underbody parts.

Exhaust Cutout qu & Resonators

Ok, my application requires a resonator that can handle FI & because of that, it seems the Pypes M80's are out and the following 4 are my only options:

Dynamax 24215 ($44 ea)

Aluminized Steel - possible longevity issues?

Magnapack 10416 ($64 ea)

Stainless Steel - Don't know the grade

Kooks R250-14 ($68 ea)

Stainless Steel - T304

Vibrant 1793 ($72 ea)

Stainless Steel - T304

I think the Kooks are made in the USA but the rest in China??

Anyone have experience with these?

So I ordered the Pypes M80's 2 1/2 " and they sent 3". Returned the Pypes and ordered the Vibrant 12" × 2 1/2. Those came in yesterday afternoon. Had them welded in about an hour later.

So drone has been reduced about 90%. Volume down to a reasonable level. Sounds a bit lower in tone which I like. And the raspiness is gone now as well. Overall I really like the change.

Overall build quality of the Vibrant resonators is great. Solid and look good too.
