It's in the rear. I got one figured out, the other is too random to figure out where it comes from. Thank god I got the main one done.

I'm glad you started this thread because I'm having the same problem just a few days after installing Hot Rods. I can see the exhaust moving when the car is at idle. I've turned the idle up to 840 and it helped. I'm still fine tuning rpm flare during shifting so I think the next tune revision will bump the rpms to 850.

Does anyone know what the idle is set to in their hot rod cam tunes?

Edit: Found the source of my rattle. The passenger side muffler was disconnected from the over axle pipe. Hooked it up and all is fine. I don't remember doing anything so/so when I installed the mufflers but obviously I did.

I'm glad it was a simple fix.

I have a rattle in my exhaust around 1000-1200 RPMs, got under the car and oddly enough its inside the exhaust system its self..cant find anything touching anything on the whole system. Didnt have the issue until I had it welded though...UGH:omfg:

Check the hangers on the trans crossmember, the over axle pipes where they go over the axle, and the muffler hangers. Those are where all of my exhaust rattles have come from.

What are this called? I can't find them in the fordparts.com. I lost my driverside hanger, the rubber bushing is still on the exhaust but the metal hanger that attaches to the car is gone.

You probably can't get them from the dealer. They are something used on the line. Some cars have them, some don't. There is also a TSB about cutting them off.

Figured I'd revive this thread. My car has been rattling like crazy and it is driving me batshit insane. I torqued down the clamp on the axleback, and the damn thing still rattles. Might be worse after tightening the axleback clamps, actually. I'm thinking maybe it's the over-axle pipe or something in that area. That's what it sounded like when I was walking around the car at idle. I guess I won't know until I can get it on some blocks so I can squeeze under it while it's running. But it rattles at idle and up to about 2k rpm, doesn't go away after it is warmed up either. Anyone have thoughts?

It's freakin' embarrassing to drive this thing with it rattling like a tin can. :mad2:

Just checked under my car, looks like it is my driver side over axle tube hitting my panhard bar. The pipe is flattened and there is almost no clearance. Will replacing the pipe work or do you think I'll have the same problem? The previous owner put a Mac Prochamber, could that be pulling the pipe down? Wouldn't mind going with an X pipe anyways...

you need to loosen the clamps from the mid pipe to the over the axle pipes. wedge something between the brace and the flatten exhaust pipe and re-tighten the clamps, and remove wedge. And if decide to replace them, order them from ford. Because if you dont, they dont come flattened and it just makes the problem worse.

Thanks for the info! I'll give that a shot :beerchug2:

Yup. Loosen the mid-pipe clamp, and maybe the muffler clamp, too, as needed.
You can rotate the mid-pipe and it'll move the pipe away from the axle, but also might change how your muffler exits your rear cover.
As mentioned, I sometimes wedge a 3/4" block under the pipe where it is hitting, tighten the clamps, then remove the block of wood.

Just have to get under there and get the pipes in proper position. There is some adjustability and mentioned above, it is just not obvious.

My passenger OTA pipe hits the spare tire well when it warms up. I did what TexasBlownV8 suggested by wedging something between the pipe and the well and tighten down after but I guess it still moves around. After 10 min of driving I hear it again and it's driving me nuts!!!

I also have a rattle towards the front. Put it on a lift the other and and the rattle is coming from some so t of shield or guard on the transmission. Any suggestions how to fix this?

What some people might wanna check to if they get a rattle sound either under the car or what sounds like inside the trunk area is check the exhaust hanger bolts. I had one on the drivers side come out and every now and then I would get a rattle/vibration sound even though the other two bolts were holding the hanger bracket in place and tight. I put the third bolt in and no more annoying rattle.

That heat shielding is easily bent by hand. You can just pull back some key spots to stop the rattling.
