Hey everyone, My name is Phil. I bought my 2012 GT in March off myself, and when I did, I had the Ford Dealer I sell for put the FRPP 1" springs and the SVT axlebacks on the stock axle-forward (?) so I could roll them into the payment and have them covered under warranty. A little history.

We just took a 2011 GT in on trade and it doesn't have cats. In fact it's essentially just a 3" straight pipe. The setup is Stainless works Long Tubes, a custom Y-pipe, going into a 3" resonator, and back to a single 3" straight through Magnaflow muffler with a 2010 V6 rear valence with the single outlet.

My deal is that the used car manager came up to me and said he needs the cats off my car instead of trying to find 3" cats and retro fit them to the current exhaust. I said I would, just for the SW headers. Not a fan of the single exhaust so I went to a local Mustang shop here seeing if he could make my stock 2.75" catback fit behind 3" headers. The problem is the first owner make the exhaust using V-clamp flanges, making it unable to use the ball flanges on my stock catback.

Here's the question: I want to keep the duals using my SVT mufflers. Is there any way to change the headers over and keep the duals? Or is there a catback system out there less the axleback (just midpipes) to use the SVT's I already paid for? Or am I just SOL? Thanks.

Sounds like you could use the headers, but would need to purchase a Stainless Works X pipe, with or without cats. You wouldn't use the custom Y pipe or anything else from the other mustang. If the headers have been modified with the V type connectors, then some fabrication may be required to connect to the new X pipe. The X pipe would have the factory type connections on the back side so that it will work with your over the axle pipes.

As long as you aren't concerned about emissions testing or returning your car back to the stock exhaust headers/manifolds, it seems like a good trade.

That's a good call. Are the outlet 3" or 2.75"? And where's the best place to buy SW products?

reason I ask because that is not stock or SW set up. Almost looks like someone took some turbo piping and made it work with the SW longtubes. If it was me, Ide get a mid pipe made from SW for the long tubes and stock flow tubes.

It looks like the flange will pose as a problem. Will this work with my V-style flange?

JBA offroad X-pipe

Or do I need to revert the SW headers to how they were and buy an SW only?

I would just go to a local exhaust shop and have them cut the Y pipe and run from each side strait back to your axlebacks, sizing will be no problem, they can bend and reduce any pipe

I had a shop build my exhaust

I wouldn't run straight pipes back. I would use the X-Pipe. It demonstrates gains that are without question worth it over not having one. I completely agree with you about using the exhaust shop though. They can make just about anything fit anything in your exhaust system.

I also had my local exhaust shop fabricate my system. Used a BBR X-Pipe and Flowmasters. There's something to be said about a fully welded exhaust over one with couplers.

I don't have longtubes because I didn't know if I was going turbo or s/c
And I still can't really decide!!!

I'm definitely going turbo if KenB and Tune Logic make that twin a kit :boobies: It won't hurt to have a set of long tubes for the next 12 months or so before it is available for sure though.

If you check out the Stainless Works website, you can see a picture of the headers with the correct X pipe.

www.stainlessworks.net/ford-mustang-gt-2011-headers.html

Looks like the SW X pipe is 3", but necks down to 2.75" so it can connect to the factory over the axle pipes. I haven't purchased any Stainless Works exhaust products myself, so I can't recommend a vendor. However, a lot of places sell SW products, so it shouldn't be hard to track down with a few a Google searches and phone calls.

Maybe just me but I kinda like the idea of a single pipe exhaust. It is different and more of a sleeper look. I say swap the whole thing over and cal it done. No $$$ spent.

Kind of defeats the purpose of the long tubes and 3" exhaust by putting in a bottle neck.

I've gotten some nice car parts.

i would definately take advanage of getting the system, whether you keep it the way it is, or order the pipe to fix it up.

i can get you hooked up there if you need a pipe

What makes you think it is a bottleneck?

You might(!) get better exhaust pulse synchronization with an x pipe and duals. This works better with the crossover closer to the headers/engine than farther away as shown with the custom y pipe.

Personally, I think having a single exhaust would be fun for the sleeper factor. Remove the 5.0 badges and add a decent muffler. Tell people its a 2010 v6 :).

Is this car sterling grey? if so i think the car used to belong to the guy that owns Buscher racing. he had a few threads that were on modular ford about it. he built the stainless y-pipe back with a single muffler and i remember him putting a 2010 v-6 bumper insert on it as well. it has been about a year, but i think thats the car.
