Hello! I’m looking to get a tune done before this Sunday for a drift event where the car will be driven hard. I’ve removed the cats and want to make sure the engine doesn’t run super rich now.

Is there any expedited off the shelf services that can do this? I’ve tried American muscle and brenspeed

Not sure who you found. Just remember that and Top Notch Tuner might not be available to "Expedite" a tune. When they are busy they are not always available at a snap of a finger.

VMP does this for an extra fee. They will move you to the top of the waiting list if there is a wait.

I went with a company called 5 star tuning who had the same service. I’ll look into vmp though for future reference, thanks guys

Is this even an issue? I've put cats on and off the car numerous times and never changed the tune because it was going to run rich. Maybe I'm a little confused but what does removing cats have to do with air/fuel ratio at the motor?

he will need tune update if he wasn't the CEL to stay off, it's a minor revision.

Removing the "OEM" cats do not affect AFR nor richen it. Therefore re-tuning is unnecessary, however, I believe what you're referring to is the rear 02 sensors? Once you remove the cats, you'll have to get a tune revision from your tuning vendor that shuts off the rear 02 sensors otherwise, you end up getting a check engine/CEL warning. Other than that, removing the cats themselves do not require a tune upgrade!

As long as you're not removing the Front O2's you won't need a tune. The rear O2's will throw a CEL but will not affect performance.

Wow guys thanks for all the replys and concern. I appreciate it. I was under the impression that a retune was necessary and I didn't know that you could simply just turn off the rear 02 sensors. Well the more you know

You still need to be able to go in and change the settings, this requires a tune revision. I doubt a hand held can make that change in the basic parameters most allow you to control.

Turning off the rear 02 sensors does indeed require a tune revision thru the vendor, as the handheld device only allows the end user to make changes to the basic parameter settings.

That's news to me. On my '01 I was able to enable/disable rear O2's via the handheld. But that was the last time I ever needed to mess with handheld settings. Every handheld after that for my '08 was just to upload various dyno tunes, didn't have to make any adjustments.

If you're just going catless for a track day, just let the CEL run. Unless the CEL really bothers you and it's worth it to you to have it shut off.

Yeah I kept reading on forums that the CEL will cause it to run richer which led me doing the revision. If I knew this now I would have just rolled with it.

And on my SCT tuner theres no option of turning off 02 sensors anywhere

I remember that being an option. But I remember at some point the software companies were getting in trouble and had to take away the option. Or something like that.
