Hey everyone,

Anyone have real, in-depth experience with custom orders from Ford?

I've only ordered one and this was done in 2007 and it took approx. 2 months from the order date to get my first 07 GT.

I placed an order for a 2014 GT W/Track Pack, Electronics Package, Leather Recaros, etc. on 3/19/14. Just received an ETA of 6/20/14.

I know it is not unheard of to take this long, but, I am a bit concerned as 13 weeks is a VERY long time to wait.

I've contacted a rep on another Forum, and despite the updates she has given me, she is not responding to my PM's and general questions.

For the guys that do work for Ford - Any type of terminology I can use to say to the dealer to get them to move their asses?

It took 2 weeks to get a crappy copy of the DORA/Order confirmation, which did NOT show the order code, priority, etc. It took over 4 Weeks for a VIN as well.

I don't feel this is good service on the dealer's part and Ford's part. (don't assume I expect special treatment, I just expect to be treated as a customer and treated with some respect and have a good experience, not one that I am not happy with, nothing more)

Thanks for the input guys.

That sucks. My base auto plus tech package was done in less than two months.

13 weeks isn't much longer than 8 IMO. I wonder if this is because of the new car coming down the line in the next little while.

Little bit man.

Dealer even said they have good allocation and priority, and this should only take 6-8 weeks MAX.

An extra 5 weeks is a long time from the original 6-8 weeks quoted. That is nearly double the time.

Since I am from Chicago, toward the end of June means almost half of our Summer is gone. I was expecting to take delivery by the middle of May, not middle/end of June.

Depending on production, not an unusual amount of time.

My brother just ordered a 2014 and was told 12 weeks. The car itself then was ready after only 8 weeks, but because of one option he got, its going to delay the delivery of the car another 4, so 12 weeks total.

Realize you've ordered a car at the end of production. It's not unheard of for it to take this long.

There is no terminology that would change anything since the order is submitted and is pulled in a systematic priority. Your dealer is not at fault for a car taking this long, except for possibly being misinformed and giving you a incorrect timeline.

Hmmm. Just wait till the 2015's come out. Premium price and a very long wait if I had to guess. Very seriously thinking about making a new 2015 GT my DD. I have been in my 20 year old 1994 Toyota truck for long enough. Still plan to keep it though.

I understand that. However, I've conversed with other members on AFM and they ordered their cars within 1-2 weeks of mine with ETA's in May/End of May and have the Track pack options/Recaros, etc. That's why I am questioning this.

Not a huge fan of the 2015. I love the ear end and the interior, but, the front end has not grown on me and I am anticipating the base price of the Premium to be nearly 40K (Current 13/14 GT Premium is 35K now)

Waited 112 days for my 14, ( July plant shut-down ).
You have your DORA & VIN, so it will be built. Am sure the 2015 MY has something to do with the long wait, tooling changes, etc.
Spend you wait time buying mods, to take your mind off it !!

What color did you order?

I am ordering Race Red. Not sure if that is a special color or not.

Whatever the darker red is. Ruby red? The Japan Tsunami had constraints on paint colors at the time I ordered.

Basically nothing a dealer can do to speed up ford, and nothing you can do to speed them up. If you don't like it, cancel It and buy one off the lot.

You don't have to like it, but you have to deal with it. Bitching at the dealer won't do anything except make the dealer dislike you.

Of course I have to deal with it.

However, there are priority numbers on the builds. If the dealer put it at Priority 20+ it will take longer. They could have put it at # 10 which would indicate to Ford it is not a stock order and is needed a bit quicker than normal.

tjm - If you think I am bitching, I am not. I'm asking for valid opinions not idiot comments.

Based on what I have found, NORMAL lead times are 6-8 weeks. If the dealer put my a priority code of say 30 on my custom order, that would indicate the car is needed on a stock order basis and will take longer.

The fact that my dealer took 2 weeks to get me an order confirmation even though they had one within a day after they ordered it pisses me off.

I do all the ordering for the Ford store I work at. 8-10 weeks is normal 80% of the time. Some come sooner, some come later - for a variety of reasons outside the dealer's control. Most orders sit in the queue with no VIN for several weeks. Totally normal.

OP, was you order type a "1"? If so, the only possible priority codes are 10-19. Order type "2" is stock units for dealer inventory with priority codes ranging from 20-80.

There was very little April production so your car was likely caught in the factory slow down. As others have said, since you have a VIN and ETA the car will be built and shipped for sure. There is no way for the dealer to speed it up at this point in the process.

2-3 months was the normal for the dealership I worked at. Even then, I had one order right in the middle of 13/14 switch, and Ford didn't notify until about a month after we placed the 13MY order. Thankfully the customer understood what happened, and was happy to reorder for 14MY.

Usually after the status is "Sent to Plant," that is when the ball starts rolling. As Cam said, it is between 14MY and 15MY where they are even retooling the factory. There will be delays as the 15MY is supposed to be shipping around November (the rumor) for regular stock, and they are trying to get production moving.

I tell every customer 10-12 weeks in general when they order near the end of a model year. Production slows down because they are working on the next model year.
