Few Turbo Questions

I have an 08 Mustang Gt, and I've pretty much settled on going turbo with it. I really like the powerhouse kit except I'd like to have it modified to use a blow off valve guess you would call that a blow through set up. Anyway I don't plan on turboing the car till next year once I get out of basic. As of right now I'd like to do a few supporting mods to the car that will benefit the turbo as well. I'd like to start with some gears and exhaust for right now. I'm not really sure on what gear i should look and cause i dont want to low of a gear to hurt my powerband but low enough to make the car more enjoyable until the kit is installed. As for exhaust I was considering some shorty headers and settle with a cat back exhaust. From what i can tell powerhouse makes their kit to bolt up to factory manifolds or any aftermarket shorty type header. I'd like to still run an x pipe or h pipe, but I wasn't sure if there was anything on the market designed to work. Also should I look for 3" exhaust or just stay with 2.5" exhaust?

I've been around turbo cars before (srt4) but nothing that wasn't turbo'd from the factory. So when the time comes to install the kit, how hard is it to sort the vacuum lines for smooth operation? Any help is appreciated.

-Thanks

Personally, I would leave the gears alone. By switching to a steeper gear (3.73 or 4.10) you're not going to have as much load put on the turbo which will give you spool issues. If you want exhaust, I would recommend an axle back, and maybe a mid-pipe although the mid-pipe will not likely be usable with the turbo kit. I also wouldn't fool with shorty headers, their gains are minimal and probably wouldn't work as well with the turbo as would the stock manifolds.

Oh my bad man thought this was the spot to put it, sorry.

Thanks 05, thats what i was hearing from others as well. When i bought it, it had a pypes axle back on it. Just not loud enough for my taste.

Save your money for the little stuff like the fuel system, it adds up quick.

Yeah sorry about that guys, still new to the site. Glad to see there a few turbo cars lurking around to help out.

Fuel- Yeah i know what you mean man, a good fuel system adds up quick. Speaking of that, when i first install the kit i'll still be on stock block with the 67mm so at most i want to make 470ish maybe 500 depending on the tuner. At those power level what mods to the fuel system should i consider? car is my daily for now so i will stay at those power levels for awhile.

what kind of fuel are you planning on running? I am on the stock block and low boost now, but when I did the install I knew that someday there would be a built motor in my future and I wanted to buy this stuff once. I am also running E85 so it takes a little bigger fuel system.

Use of the search feature will get you alot of results on this(and not using it will get you a lot of grief)

i have the twin gt500 pump setup brand new from american muscle i might sell. as well as a turbo kit from on3performance. im sticking with nitrous and focusing on my fox. I was considering keeping the pumps in case i need it for a bigger shot of nitrous in the future but i doubt i'll go any further with this car.

I also have a Garrett TO4Z dual ball bearing turbo with precision singlescroll t4 turbine housing with .81 A/R but i might use that on my fox. and I have a mass air a sct BA5000 you'll need one of those as the stock one pegs voltage around 420rwhp on a turbo setup typically. and siemens deka 60# injectors, supposedly the cleanest spray pattern made if you're running gasoline... for e85 go bigger. im torn on selling or installing this stuff but i'm giving it some thought for sure.

It does have a billet wheel the TO4Z uses the same compressor wheel as the Garrett gt42 which is a 67mm "p" trim. It equates to say a 70 trim but garrett doesnt actually say. with the dual ball bearing and lightweight billett wheel if the car makes any kind of power on motor and still has log manifolds this turbo should see full boost below 3000rpm with the wastegate set at 8-10 psi. I may sell it separate but its still wrapped in plastic and im not the type to just get rid of stuff cheap especially this cause i was considering using it on my other car.

and you say you want to run an x or h pipe on your car, you cant with this turbo kit it has its own down pipe that goes to a y pipe that bolts up to the factory exhaust so you dont have to buy an offroad midpipe you'll already have one.

yeah i'd like to jump on that deal but i wont have the cash till i get out of basic, which will be next year lol. As far as fuel we only have 93 around here so thats what I'll be on. If I go with a blow through type of kit like i was talking about in the first post, will i still have problems with the MAF? Like I said im fairly familiar with turbo cars that come turbo'd lol, just never installed a kit on a car without one to begin with.

As long as you run an aftermarket mass air like the one I have you wont have an issue but the stock one will limit you to about 5 psi of boost. these cars arent like GM's where they can just do a speed density tune so you have to upgrade that MAF.

Oh alright I gotcha. Yeah I'm talking to Mike at powerhouse about making me a kit that is blow through. I saw a vid on youtube of a powerhouse kit that was done like that with a tial blow off valve mounted dead center on the intercooler. Looked really clean. Like i said I think I'll be happy with 470-500 until i get a new daily and then I will look into a built motor and all that. Been looking at mmr but as i've been searching around i see a lot of bad reviews on them. So when it comes to getting a good quality built motor where's the place to look?

ford aluminator can be found pretty reasonably priced. I am pretty sent on going with one of those when I get a new shortblock. Brenspeed and JDM are vendors here and each offer a built 302ci shortblock also.

You can look up schrader performance he's 5 miles from my house he has been specializing in modular motors for years he has a 1200hp daily driver 2v 4.6 and its still 281 c.i. so he knows what he's doing but the most cost effective route is definitely just the good ole aluminator.

I'll have to look into it. So what exhaust are you guys running on these with turbos? More specifically 3" or just 2.5"
