Ford clear coat... really?!

Ill have him do it, it could use a detail anyways. If it doesn't work I'll start looking at quotes to have the bumper repainted. Shit this COULD be my excuse to throw on a v6 bumper and do a side exhaust... always wanted that...

A car wash caused this? How? By being to close to the car with the wand? I always use the manual car wash since the well water at the house has to much lime in it and I haven't had a chance to install a filter for the outside water yet.

The top portions of my 08 bullitts front and rear bumpers were both heavily oxidized and clear was cracking... Now before anyone jumps on me and asked if a properly washed and maintained the vehicle... The answer is hell yes I am extremely anal about the way I maintain my cars waxed every 3 weeks and never used anything less than the best as far as car soaps go so I would say yes there is something wrong with fords clear?

What do you use? what do you consider the best? If you are using a citrus based soap to strip the wax completely and waxing every 3 weeks with a wax that only lasts 2, there is one week of no protection per every 3 weeks. Over time, that will take its toll on any paint over time.

The clear needs to be protected on all cars, i personally like using a sealant base then applying a wax if needed. I had a 2006 redfire GT i traded in for my 13 and the 06 did not have any signs of clear coat failure, i always kept a sealant on it so to jump to conclusion and say Fords clear coat is the issue seems kind of ridiculous to me. and No offense OP but you car looks dirty as hell, the faux cap has hard water spots, and your black out panel also looks bad. Pics of the whole car? Doesn't really seem "properly" maintained IMO and now you are seeing the problems arise.

The black out panel is plasti dip, thus dirt tends to grab it. And normally it's not spotted with water marks, just this wash because it was 40 degrees outside and I ran out of towels lol.

Nice looking car. I would also guess that is clear coat failure based on the second pic, it looks visible at the very top of the bumper.

Yeah I'm gonna take it to ford today just to see what they say. Then ill try this clay bar and polish and if that fails start looking into getting it repainted.

Someone come beat my car with a hammer so I can get insurance to cover this

My 06 paint is flawless, so is every other local s197 I've seen. Nothing is wrong with the clear.

Did you use any chemicals on the black out panel? Cause rain could have washed it onto the back bumper causing it to do it in that problem area.

No chemicals on the panel. I've actually noticed the fading before it was ever there anyways.

Looks a lot like clear failure to me. My last Ford had pretty bad clear failure, but it took a lot longer to start showing up (coincidentally, also on the top of the rear bumper) & the first signs looked like that. Root cause for yours? I won't venture to guess.

The wash I've always used is either ice wash or meguiars gold class car wash which does not strip any wax or sealants of as for sealants I would se poorboys ex-p and top off with either my nu finish wax or nx2

Ford has had excellent paint for decades. This isn't Ford's fault - something caused that to happen.
