Forging bottom end advice.

Looking for some advice on forging the bottom end on a 4.6, nothing to crazy. Looking to run around 650 rwhp safely supercharged.
Anyone done this, and have advice on crank, rods pistons etc.?

FYI - Not really tech.

You should just check out one of the vendors of the site. Many offer a complete rotating assembly. Labor will be pretty expensive if you are unable to do the work yourself. In that case, the vendors offer a pre-assembled block.

I purchased the brenspeed stage 2 rotating assembly. If you read around there a lot of good words on that kit.

Any good engine builders around you? Most have their rods and pistons of choice. Can't really go wrong with Diamond, Manley, or CP. Mahle pistons will do the trick just as well although not as strong. For rods, I like Manley H beams or Eagles. My Aluminator comes from Ford with Mahle pistons with their graphal coating and Manley H beams. If I were to do it again Id have my engine builder do his usual Eagle rods with Diamond pistons. His setup is proven as seen in TurboPetes car.

The stock crank is strong. If you shop around decent rods, pistons, rings, bearings, and main bolts (all the stuff an assembled short block will come with) can be found for $1300 or so. Machine shop labor will be a minimum of $500 up to $1000 (guesstimation based on balance + hone or bore, hone, main line hone, block decking).

So for about $1800 - $2300 + your block and with your labor you could have forged rods and pistons.

An aluminator will run about $3500 shipped. Forged everything, new everything and you still have a stock block to sell or whatever.

If you decide to sell the block let me know. I'm looking for a project.

i would buy the MMR1000 on sale right now for 2599.000, but thats just me. I personally like the company, from the few times i have dealt with them. I know a few here hate them but thats their opinion and experience. I know quite a few people locally with mmr motors and alot of local shops here use mmr motors also.

+1. I spent forever speccing out and assembling mine, and I wish I just bought something in a nice, shiny box. I wouldn't buy the Aluminator, necessarily, but I'd snag one of those Livernois 302 strokers in a minute.

P.S. this is certainly "tech." This is the kind of thing that our tech section is designed for, not "my wipers have a mind of their own."
