So for the longest time I have had a clunk when I would drive the stang around. Enough so that I have been under the car several times looking for the problem.

Numerous searches on many sites always turned up threads where people were bitching about the exact same thing as me so I figured i was just being oversensitive to the whole thing and moved on...

Fast forward to today. I was under the car taking off my k-member brace trying to diagnose a problem with my shifter. Lo and behold:

What you are looking at is a sheared off rod end from the engine torque limiter on the k-member brace. The car has clunked for as long as I can remember but I have never had problems shifting at the track.

Now that the brace is removed the clunk is gone.

COOL!! LOL jk That looks bad and now how the hell did this happen?

I have no idea. Could have been a botched install or just a faulty part. Not sure how I could have screwed it up soo bad that I managed to shear off the bolt but stupidity knows no limits...

I dont really beat on the car off the track but when I am at the track I push her to the limit.

That's crazy man. At least you figured it out and don't have to be bothered by it anymore haha.

I'm curious how that happened too.. but how did the torque limiters (or them being broken) cause a clunk?

The broken limiter had no solid connection to the rod end right....so every time the engine came unsettled from the mounts the rod end would slam down on the base like a hammer on an anvil. At least this is my theory.

Assuming that the limiters were correctly installed, and not broken, I am quite certain that there would not be any clunk.

Well, I don't know about that unless they were ridiculously loose. The whole point is to keep the transmission in place so there shouldn't of been any moving, slamming around on it. I'm guessing it was a manufacturing defect. Have you spoke to CHE?

Consider yourself lucky the rod-end failed. I've seen pics of those torque limiters taking a chunk of the transmission case with them when they fail.
