..my brake pedal started to make a "clunking noise ". The noise appears when I go off the brake pedal, a little faster.
Brakes and the booster work well. So I checked the little rod ,that secures the rod from the booster to the pedal. everything looks good. Then I asked a friend to push the brake pedal , while I was observing the engine compartment..
Looks like the "clunk Noise " comes from the booster area..

So my question is.. someone had ..or still has the same issue ? I am afraid of a brake defect, while driving .

When I go off the brake pedal slowly then there is not sound... perhaps something came loose inside the booster , a rubber or whatever part , that dampens the return of the Brake rod , that comes from the MC /Booster..

Unfortunately there is no good " explosion drawing " from the booster available in the Ford Manual.. or in any other manual- like Haynes / Chilton ..

..made a search in the www. Looks like that "sound " is a common issue in 2010 / 2011 S 197 Mustangs. Found a thread in "All Ford Mustang" Forum, about this problem.. 5 pages ..94 comments/posts.
Unfortunately Ford did not made a TSB ...as far as I can see till now. But I will keep on searching.

... found a SSM ( special service message ) .. something like a TSB -but not as official as a TSB or even a recall..

SSM 32129 - Effective Mar 7 2013 2010-2014 Mustang - Clunk Noise From The Brake Pedal During Brake Release

So the problem is a known one by Ford. But unfortunately I can not find the "real message " .or let´s say I do not know , what Ford recommends if the Cluck noise is present.. and the customer reclaims .
Perhaps a member here in the Forum is a good friend of some one who works in a Ford Dealership..or still better the member works in a Ford Dealership, and can give me a info about the
procedures to resolve the "Clunk noise."

Any input is apreciated

I have exactly the same problem on my 2010 GT!
When I release the brake pedal it makes a clunk noise, the only exception is when I raise the foot very slowly.
Next week I am bringing the car to my mechanic. I'll let you know if and how he solves it.

buona sera Andrea

Yes exactly what my 2010 GT makes... I have two "ideas "... first is the Master Cylinder.. I am not 100 % sure.. but I looks like Ford made and "upgrade " for the MC. 2005-2009 is the same..2010 up ( even if built in 2009 ) the MC is different. ( Part number..Reservoir..) same thing with the booster.
But in the www I read about someone who had the same problem, and the Ford dealer changed the MC .. for a "newer " version. I bought a MC from Rock Auto.. ( OEM Ford ) and tomorrow I will check the Parts number. if the number is different from the 2010- 2013 years.. then the newer MCs are a updated version.

Second Idea..is the booster. Perhaps there is a grommet inside which failed..or went "hard " during the years. A grommet that dampens the return travel of the rod that operates the MC

The pedal assembly has NO Bump Stop or something similar for the brake pedal. so the travel /way back is controlled from the booster.

My bet is on the booster side...

Hello Jürgen,

just a brief update.
No news, unfortunately, other than that the brakes seem to be alright except for the pedal noise.
The mechanic will take a deeper look in the future...

@ Andrea last week I asked the dealer about the brake pedal "clunck".. but he had no idea .
So I am still thinking about the booster .. The booster is the only part that is "able " to slow down the rod after the brake pedel was released "too fast / quick ". But because the brake feels good ..and crisp . I will live with the sound.
