Friend's car having problems

Hey guys I need to run something by you I want to know if I'm heading in the right direction.

My friend has a 2005 v6 automatic mustang with 100,000 miles. When going at slow speeds the car seems to bog and shake and eventually it will return to normal only for it to happen again.

When the check engine light came on I plugged the tuner in and the DTC code read:

P0351 Ignition Coil A
(cop-A)
primary/secondary ckt

I'm assuming my friend needs to replace the spark plugs and wires, but if this is incorrect someone please let me know. Is their a chance the ignition coil needs to be replaced or should we replace the wires and plugs first and see where we get from there? If I am heading in the wrong direction please feel free to say so..suggestions welcome.

Ok, this might not help but I think it will put you in the right direction. My wifes car throwed the same code its a 08 v6 auto. It acted like it had water in the gas. So I replaced the coil pack and replaced plugs. Problem fixed. If her car had that many miles on it I would have went ahead and put new wires on as well. This problem happend at 8300 miles. If anyone cares its the warriors in pink limited edition mustang.

With 100,000 miles the plugs are due for a change if your friend hasn't changed them before now - and maybe some new wires. That code could be saying that the plugs, wires and coil are not interacting properly. The V6 doesn't have the coil on plug like the V8.

Thanks for the responses guys, I'm gonna change the plugs, wires and coil packs and we'll see if it happens again.

That exactly what was happening with my 01 cougar since i had already replaced the wires and plugs just over a year ago i replaced the coil pack when i got the old one off i found it was cracked all over the place inbetween where each wire gets attached...the car has 111k on it so i agree with everyone else if it hasnt been done before i vote full tuneup

Alright guys an update to this situation and any help again would be appreciated..

My friend had Ford do his wires and plugs, and then he had someone else put his coil pack in. I checked it and the wires and coil pack were working correctly, and the car started running good again.

The guy who put the coil pack in said it might happen again cause it looks like the wires aren't fitting perfectly snug on the coil, and that my friend should get specific wires that have special connectors or some shit (company called Standard I think)?


Long story short about not even a month later the problem is back. Where do you guys think he should go from here? Do you think the wire/coil interaction could be the problem and he should look into these special fitting wires? Any help would be appreciated.

I was running E3 plugs in my 2006 v6 before she got traded up...

This is a very hard problem to diag over the internet. You said the problem was back now. Does that mean you have the same exact code P0351? If its the same code and you already replaced the coilpack, plugs and wires you have a problem in your wiring, sjb, pcm or a million other different things. I guess take a look at the wiring and pins going to the coil pack but like I said this isn't an easy problem to figure out without way more info. Sorry man.

i as well had the same code come up recently changed the plugs everything was fine after that.

I might change the plugs out again, I feel like someone along the line fucked up.
