Hey guys. So I have recently(within the last week or so) developed a squeak/chirp in my front end when going over speed bumps, small bumps in the road, or just driving down a not so level road. My car is lowered on steeda sport springs w/ Konist-r's, and Steeda hd strut mounts. I have been riding on these for about 1k miles and never had a sound before now. It's been warmer lately, and that seems to be a factor; below 80 degrees, no sound. 80+ degrees=squeaks. It sounds like a cricket, or bird chirping. I had a shop do the installation of the springs/shocks. I looked after I started hearing this noise and noticed that the rubber isolater sleeve for the springs were reinstalled like this:
DSCF3153.jpg

I noticed when he put the isolater on the new springs, he didn't slide it all the way to the end of the coil, so there is spring and strut in direct contact(metal on metal). Is this what's causing this noise?

I took this video on the way to work yesterday so you can actually hear the noise, as opposed to me just trying to describe it; It was about 88 degrees outside. Took it out for about a 20min drive today(75 degrees) and got nothing. Now, you will hear some other noises in the video(rattling/buzzing) every so often. That's my stupid rearview mirror

. One day I'll figure out how to stop that. These are the times in the video you can hear the noise I'm describing:

on the street
1:25 very faint
1:44, 2:02, 2:29, 2:32
Parking lot
you can see me coming up to the speedbump @ 3:00
3:05 over the s.b.
3:27, 3:43

It's kind of the same, yours seems to be a little more high pitched although you can't really hear shit in your video. Did you replace your strut mounts? I re-used mine when I installed Eibach pro-kit with Bilstein HD shocks/struts. And no, my rubber sleeve is to the end of the coil.

I know the video isn't the best. Really, it's at 3:07 that you can really hear it. I switched to the Steeda HD strut mounts when these went on. Anyone got any ideas?

I have a lot of creaking in the rear, but I just accept that its just aftermarket shocks doing their thing. Plus the LCA's didn't help out.

Yeah. I got nothing in the rear. And this just bothers me bc it's not all the time. I have seen other springs seated the way mine are, with the metal exposed in the end, but I can't think of what else it would be. Might try some wd-40 this afternoon to see if it IRS away for a minute. I know that won't cure it, but maybe it will let me know if that is in fact the issue? Think that will work?

Update

Took it in to the shop that did the install today, but couldn't get there until about 4:30 or so. The guy who did the install rode around the block with me so he could hear the squeak. Anyway, he jacked it up and looked it over. He ended up greasing the steeda mount, s well as greasing the strut rod itself(that has done nothing so far). Bottom line, he wasn't able to figure out what was causing the noise. Granted, I did get there super late, and he only had a short time to mess with it. He told me to bring it back up there Monday morning so that he could have more time, and more hands to look it over. Needles to say, still have the birds under the hood. I did stop atAuto Zone on my way home to pick up some silicone spray to see if it might be spring/strut contact at the bottom of the spring where the rubber sleeve stops and exposes the end of the coil(about 2" woth of bare spring). I sprayed some on both sides and drove around for a bit. This did nothing to affect the sound either, so I'm not sure the positioning of that sleeve is having anything to do with it. I do know after today that is only coming from the front, and not from the rear. Do you guys think it could be a faulty strut(s)?? I know my 1st video was crap as far as conveying the noise, but I made another one and you can clearly hear what's happening. I also made a video of me bouncing the front end in my garage, so you can hear what it's doing sittingstill as well. These are very short videos, so if you guys would't mind checking them out and giving me some feedback it would be greatly appreciated! Also, any advice on things to ask, bring up, when I bring it back to the shop on Monday morning?

So here's a better representation of what I'm getting

Did you check to see if the bolts were properly torqued on the HD mounts? I had a clunking issue that sounded similar at ~0:50 that was solved by properly torquing the bolts.

The high pitched squeek could also possibly have something to do with the front end sway bar links...just an idea. Although that really does sounds like metal rubbing on metal caused by the insulator being improperly installed.

Do you mean the 4 bolts at the strut tower, or the top strut nut? The guy at the shop sadid he checked everything today, and it was good. I am going to check myself tomorrow, however. What are the proper torque specs? That 'clunk' you heard in the video was actually something in the car. That microphone picks up every little thing. I'm not getting any clunks, only that damn squeak. As for that insulator; I was positive that's what the issue was, bu the more I've looked, I've seen more than a couple installed like that, even on the factory assembly it's like that I believe. I lubed that are down today, and it didn't make any difference?

A guy posted this i another forum, sorry to link a different forum:oops:

I have the same exact noise man. It drives me crazy! I have the same set up struts and springs but j&m caster camber plates. It was happening before i put the konis and j&m on I honestly think its the springs....becasue ive replaced strut mounts with new j&m ones, replaced shocks with new koni's and the only thing i have not replaced is the steeda springs.

That's interesting. It's very irritating and loud as f$$k! It just started out of nowhere one day and seems to be getting worse. I had the springs/struts installed with no issues for about 3 weeks with no issues, then all of the sudden... I also saw this tsb while reading around. Don't know if this could be the issue.

Hmm... i dont think thats it. When i bought my car it was stock and did not have this problem. When i got it the first mod was d-specs and steeda springs. Guess what. That noise started. I changed strut mounts out to gt500 ones because of the clunking issues. That did not solve it. So i thought it might have been the struts and shocks. So i replaced those with koni's and strut mounts with J&M plates. All brand new BTW. And it has still not gone away. And i just did that about a month ago. So other than the springs idk what else it could be. I have also changed the lower control arms to che double adjustable.

Hmmm. So you did your control arms too, huh? Does your car sound like mine does in the 'garage' video I posted above when you bounce the front end? It only makes that horrid noise when I do the drivers side.

I thought it might have been a noise picked up by the camera. I was referring to the 4 bolts though. Make sure those are tightened down to avoid "clunking". The upper strut mount is 46lbs but the other bolts were not referenced in the installation instructions. I just tightened them down 'old school' style, lol

After reading those responses it could very well have to do with the front end sway bar links, they are known to be problematic. That link seems to be spot on as well. I am just throwing out suggestions to help you possibly locate the issue.

The sway bar might have something to do with his a little....maybe some of the noise because I took my front sway bar off because of the end links making noise.

And one more thing I want to mention. When I get I'm my car and sit down it makes the chirping noise. Same noise when driving too. That's why I think it might be the springs
