If you are talking to me, I don't know MY05 but my car was a 2005 and the crappy valvetrain componets are what ruined my car....I had the whole ticking crap and was told you can drive it...and I did for 25k with no problems...then it failed with 0 warning....55k miles.....bullshit to me.

A faulty phaser wont grenade a motor... But an unintentional mechanical over-rev will

My problem was the ticking from the vct oil passageways. Ford has attributed this to phasers, lash adjusters, followers, and the vct solenoid, with a member on here who has seen this problem many times stating that he 100% believes that it is the clogged oil passageways that truly are the problem, starving the lash adjusters. I admit I missed one shift, but my rev limiter was set to only 6500rpms...nothing crazy, and the car drove fine after the shift. It grenaded later...all I did was simply start the car and it let go. Prior to starting the car when it let go I had driven around town calmly with no issues.

What broke exactly?

And there is a passageway that feeds the VCT which can clog, however this is completely separate from the lash adjusters.

Well that sucks, guess its a good thing I'm only out $25. Like I said a good deal, but I'm still going to try and get the single cam, its worth a shot, I know a manager over at the parts store at the ford dealership, maybe he can pull some strings or something.

As for not screwing ford your joking right? The amount they will probably charge for the single cam is probably more than enough to compensate them for selling it unpaired. Not to mention the amount they charge for anything else they do or any part they sell, if anything I feel like I've been the one that's been bent over whenever I step foot in a ford established building.

The idea of someone intentionally lying and screwing over a company because of their own self-induced misfortune is morally wrong.

I never said I was going to claim that their valve train caused the cam to fail did I? Besides this is a tech thread, I never asked your opinion on what your personal morals are, so keep them to yourself.

On another note I'd like to thank the guys that helped me with the information I was looking for.

I have done 4 cam swaps and it is very easy/straightforward. If you are mechanically inclined which it sounds like you are do it yourself.

There are several very good articles on the internet on how to do it, since you are not swapping out the springs it is easy.

You will get different opinions on whether or not you need special tools to do it, on the 4 sets I have done you need a piece of gardeh hose-yes, really-and another set of hands, no reason to buy special tools that once you see it you will ask yourself why did I spend that much money on that tool and use only for the cam swap.

I've seen the links that show how to do the install but only with the tools. Is there a link showing how to do it w/out the tools?
