I found a RH FRPP cam for pretty cheap so I decided to jump on it, what should I be looking for as far as damage? Also would you recommend me taking it to a machine shop and getting the duration and specs checked? If so what are these numbers? Anyone know how much that typically costs? Also I'm assuming you can buy the RH or the LH individually, does anyone know the best place to check to see how much the LH is going to cost me?

Is the install pretty straight forward or should I take them to a shop to be put in? What would you rate the difficulty of install at for those of you that have done yourselves? I've rebuilt the bottom end on a few motors along with other things and I consider myself to be fairly good with a wrench, but I've never torn into the cams on an overhead cam motor so that kind of worries me. Thanks for your help.

I have done 4 cam swaps and it is very easy/straightforward. If you are mechanically inclined which it sounds like you are do it yourself.

There are several very good articles on the internet on how to do it, since you are not swapping out the springs it is easy.

You will get different opinions on whether or not you need special tools to do it, on the 4 sets I have done you need a piece of gardeh hose-yes, really-and another set of hands, no reason to buy special tools that once you see it you will ask yourself why did I spend that much money on that tool and use only for the cam swap.

Gotta ask though...what happened to the other cam?

They are different, one is longer than the other.

How long did it take you your first time?

The box that both of them were in was damaged during shipping and the other cam was lost so they sold it as a single.

3-4 hours but that includes almost an hour getting everything off to the VC's and then another hour to button it up.

Sounds good, thanks for your advice.

Also yes, I bought one cam, trust me the price was right.

Now does anyone have the specs on the cam and also what to look for damage wise? I assuming just like a crank you need to look for scaring.

Anyone know a good place to look for the other one? I would think that you could get it from any ford racing distributor, just haven't had a chance to call anyone as I'm at work. Thanks,

The cams are only sold as a pair from FRPP. Unfortunately you'll need to find someone who happens to have a single in the side you need.

Yup this.

I had the part numbers for each cam individually and I was going to try and buy them that way thinking they would be cheaper than the FRPP "set"

NO GO. FRPP said they come as a pair. Called various Ford dealerships that deal with speed equipment and got the same statement.

Good luck, you could always put it in an 4- cylinder Escort.....LOL!!!!
