The tuners are typically picked up from Bama or Brenspeed, etc that lock their tune into them directly to the Computer # on the specific car. I will say this, you should be able to tune up to 5 vehicles with the single tuner. I sold a "locked" one to a buddy and he was immediately able to use it on his Maurader.

You can "flash" it clean without issue. If you see a good deal on a locked one, buy it. When you plug it into your car, the tuner will read what your car is, what engine, etc. Then you can load an emailed tune or just use the SCT custom tune thats already on there.

No worries. And FYI the C&L Racer and Tuner is worth picking up for that price. The K&N Typhoon is nice but does not require a tune. The Racer does and in turn will pick up more rwhp than the K&N. Just my two cents.

i got the typhoon for free. and for free im not gonna bitch much but i do plan on replacing it here soon.

Once you upload a tune with a Xcal, it locks into that specific car you uploaded too. There's no way you can tune 5 cars with one tuner.

Why a lot of folks have locked tuners for sale is because they upload a tune to their car, then later sell the car not realizing they have to return it to stock with the Xcal they used prior to unmarry it from that car.


But $260 is still a good deal for a C @ L Racer and a Xcal 3!! I paid $200 alone for my C @ L and it was used.

^^ We have been able to tune with the SCT 4 cars so far. Same handheld. But each time the SCT gets passed along its deleting the previous file so I am sure that is what you are referring to as "un-marrying" it.

And I am not referring to loaded Emailed tunes from Brenspeed or Bama. Just simply the generic SCT performance tunes each time.
