Fuel level reading problem

Took my car out to see how the cooling system was working with the supercharger and right when I got back home the fuel gauge went from half full to empty and it read Fuel Data Issue. Anybody ever have this happen? I have the GT500 dual pump kit and it read fine the last 20 miles that I've driven it until now.

Check the wires at the plug on the gt500 harness for level sender and disconnect/reconnect the battery would be my first steps.

Well turns out I had no fuel left(engine went lean and didn't want to run) It looks like maybe the float is having issues, put 2 gallons in it and still reading half full. Do the GT500 pumps need to be calibrated during tuning or should they read normal when dropped in?

I had a cracked board in my sender somehow and it would hang up at about a 1/4 tank and then randomly drop to empty or I would run out of fuel. Sender could be stuck.

Level sender is the same for gt and gt500 from 05-09 07-09 respectively, unless it is 2010+ gt500 hat, the reading resistance chnaged in 2010 and the sender wont work with 05-09 pcm.

Hmm, I'm assuming its the kit from an 05-09. It was a used kit from here. I'll check that out when I am able to take it out again

I had pretty much same thing on my 06 GT yesterday. It was sitting for a couple of days and hottest days of year. Started up fuel gauge was just over quarter tank which was accurate. Halfway down block dropped to empty and info said 4 miles to empty. Jumped back up. I turned car off, restarted and filled up and was fine rest of day. Im hoping thats it.

My fuel gauge used to read full when I filled it up. Then as I got close to 1/2 tank it would drop to empty and actually ran out once. My crossover tube/Venturi thing cam off the pump when I squeezed it through the effin misaligned holes. Why wouldn't you put the access hole under the back seat directly over fuel pump. Why would you offset it like it is. Amazing.

Yeah that is annoying about they alignment, if you remove the aft bolt on each side of the tank straps and drop the fuel tank down 3-4 inches and let it sit on the driveshaft/exhaust it makes it a million times easier to get the fuel hat in and out. You would need the car on ramps or jackstands though. This is my preferred method lol

Yeah, I let the tank hang now. That couple of inches makes a world of difference.

I talked to one guy at a show and said there were differences in the GT500 dual pump kits that 2 wires need to be changed around. Didnt know which wires though. Anyone heard of this? I put a full tank in and it is always reading empty. Every now and then it tells me I have 11 miles to go but that lasts only 1 mile. Its not affecting the driving but its annoying and im trying to keep an eye on my odometer to make sure I dont go empty

Its the two fuel level sender wires coming out of the hat going to the stock gt harness, you can try swapping them, but you said it was working correctly at first correct? Or are you not sure?

Ill have to see when it gets to a lower fuel level if it changes at all but its been dead in the red glow the whole time. Like I said though the car still drives fine. The kit I got was a used kit and didnt have the special pigtail to put your wires into like Fords manual said so I just connected them onto their leads and electric taped them on. I will maybe play with that today and see if it changes. Those 2 wires only do fuel level reading?

Yes two smaller wires are for level sender only. Since you dont have the connector you are going to want to solder or splice then for proper signal. And it only works one way so if its not reading properly one way swap the wires.

I will try that thanks! Any idea where to get that pigtail piece or if there is a part number for that?

No, not available that I know of, never seen in the motorcraft pigtail guide either. Its not mandatory just makes the kti more plug and play when its new. Mine are butt spliced with my Fore hat.

Well that didn't work :/ still read "DTE FLI DATA ERROR". I'll have to pull the pump and see what's happening
