GMS TB + CAI mix & match?

I've got the 'Ford Performance' replacement TB on the car (essentially the same as the factory 55 mm TB) with Airaid CAI. No problems whatsoever with it running right now on a canned 89 octane tune. Few years back I got a smoking deal on a GMS 62 mm unit off of ebay. This is when my X4 tuner would actually talk to a pc (it gave up the ghost on that), the OBDII hookup does work with the X4.

What this means is I'm stuck with the factory, plus two canned tunes on the X4 until I unmarry it and get a replacement (89 & 92 octane) The latter is the top grade I can get in my state. So that's what I'm stuck with, two canned tunes for the Airaid & 55 mm TB. I did bolt up the GMS (Granatelli Motorsports) 62 mm few years back when the X4 functioned and it would just never run right with any canned tuned they revised for me, so I gave up on it. It would run but surge coming up on red lights...

I also have an SR Performance CAI (tube looks pretty in chrome) and yeah, I'm aware the Airaid composite tube is superior all around. Supposedly, you can run the SR intake without any tune whatsoever. What I'm just curious of however, is if the smaller diameter SR tube would run somewhat equal to the Airaid on these canned tunes perhaps mated up to the 62 mm GMS? Both units are also plugged for the factory MAF. I'm skeptical on this (if it would work or not) due to the MAF reading the air volume downstream from the TB (probably answered my own question there) Then again, stranger things have happened. I'm just in no mood to try it honestly, hence this thread. Also the GMS, if anybody is interested in it, it's been on a shelf for a while. Has the brass cut gears (it's the TB itself without TPS & actuator for the gears)

If the intake tubes are the same diameter you can swap them without any issues. Is the venturi insert still installed on the airaid?

I wouldn't swap TB's unless I had to, If you do, you will need a tune.

There's no venturi tube in either intake (just MAF plugin) They are different diameter (Airaid is larger In diameter) I was curious if the 62 vs 55 mm TB would offset that. I have a tune for the 62 plus the Airaid, but I can't transfer it to my X4 tuner because that function just went AWOL on me for whatever reason. I doubt it would work myself knowing what a PITA it is even trying to dial in an after market TB with them throwing canned tunes at you left and right.

I was never given a reason as to why the X4 just quit on the pc end of things. Death loop on the derive software "please connect your device" Tried everything including handing my entire pc over to SCT remotely. I also tried multiple pcs, ordered the proper cord direct from SCT (nothing) They just sent me a fee to repair it (along with zero explanation)

I was so pissed off I declined, even though it will cost me more to buy up a new one if I even decide to (OBDII hookup to car works). Total dicks. All I can think of (and this perhaps might spare somebody else of this) I kept the tuner (which is a flimsy piece of junk) in the console of the car. Perhaps cold weather in the winter did it in? But winters where I'm at in the extreme would be maybe 30 degrees F for a few days out of a week or so out of the entire year. 90s Gameboy has more heft than these cheaply made tuner devices.

Well it seems like you need to understand the fundamentals of how an engine works. You need to mix the proper amount of fuel to the air. You need to know how much air your letting in to determine the right amount of fuel. If you change the intake size you no longer know how much air your taking in and your A/F ratio will be off. I would try and understand the concepts of how an engine works before throwing parts at it.

Oh I think I can understand how a fucking engine works. I also can grasp I can't adjust shit like air/fuel/spark without some all important plug in device (unless I master some software) Fuck what an asshole. Fuck this stupid forum.

And just to reiterate here to you Mr. 'Boss'

Perhaps I shouldn't have called out the entire forum, but man, what a condescending bunch of BS. This initial thread I started @ 2am my time waiting for my girl to get down a freeway from work. There is nothing wrong with my car whatsoever. I've been pulling pulleys off, painting, taking them back off, striping them down (just dicking with it) as a distraction from the clown show politics and my city about ready to pop off.

This isn't even a serious thread. I just have the crap in a box. Are you going to instruct me how to tie my shoes too? I've been working on cars probably longer than you've been driving. How old are you I wonder? Mr. bucko-buck 'supercharger'??? I went straight from carburetors to the can't put a seat cover on without a 'tune' 3 valve. 'Muh cold air intake' Supercharger to me back 20 years ago (seems like literally yesterday) was a cheapo Weiand 142 with a carburetor. That I could do anything to without some cheap little box and a lap top. Done here, but my God. How many people has this insulting idiot chased off of here anyway I wonder? Add another to that tally.

Dude, WTF is wrong with you? Bro, I was trying to help because you didn't seem to understand how the MAF works in conjunction with the intake diameter. I tried to explain it as simple and polite as possible. When you asked if the larger TB would offset the smaller diameter intake without a tune brought me to the conclusion you didn't understand the nuances of how it all worked. If you did, you wouldn't have asked such a stupid question that needed me to dumb down the answer and then you get bent over it. Sorry for trying to help you out penis breath.
