I've got the 'Ford Performance' replacement TB on the car (essentially the same as the factory 55 mm TB) with Airaid CAI. No problems whatsoever with it running right now on a canned 89 octane tune. Few years back I got a smoking deal on a GMS 62 mm unit off of ebay. This is when my X4 tuner would actually talk to a pc (it gave up the ghost on that), the OBDII hookup does work with the X4.
What this means is I'm stuck with the factory, plus two canned tunes on the X4 until I unmarry it and get a replacement (89 & 92 octane) The latter is the top grade I can get in my state. So that's what I'm stuck with, two canned tunes for the Airaid & 55 mm TB. I did bolt up the GMS (Granatelli Motorsports) 62 mm few years back when the X4 functioned and it would just never run right with any canned tuned they revised for me, so I gave up on it. It would run but surge coming up on red lights...
I also have an SR Performance CAI (tube looks pretty in chrome) and yeah, I'm aware the Airaid composite tube is superior all around. Supposedly, you can run the SR intake without any tune whatsoever. What I'm just curious of however, is if the smaller diameter SR tube would run somewhat equal to the Airaid on these canned tunes perhaps mated up to the 62 mm GMS? Both units are also plugged for the factory MAF. I'm skeptical on this (if it would work or not) due to the MAF reading the air volume downstream from the TB (probably answered my own question there) Then again, stranger things have happened. I'm just in no mood to try it honestly, hence this thread. Also the GMS, if anybody is interested in it, it's been on a shelf for a while. Has the brass cut gears (it's the TB itself without TPS & actuator for the gears)
