GT500 rear spoiler removal tips?

Last time I had to pull my gt500 rear spoiler off I had a very tough time getting it off without damaging it. Does anyone have any tips for getting it off without prying it off? The problem is all the double-sided tape holding it down. I get my Roush spoiler tomorrow

Guitar strings work wonders. I used a .09 E on my stock spoiler, worked great.

Others recommend fishing string. I found it to be too stretchy/breakable.

I used 10lb test fishing line about 2 weeks ago to prepare for my roush wing install.

Abdulla, here's how I do it:

1) Let car sit in the sun or heat up the spoiler with a hairdryer or heatgun (be careful with the heatgun)
2) Spray "goo gone" as much as you can between the spoiler and the trunk. let sit for 15-30 minutes, go eat or something.
3) take some fishing line, and start at one end, and gently "saw" across the trunk. You'll use the fishing line to "cut" through all the tape.
4) Once cut all the way through, you'll be able to gently pry it up and get it to unstick.
5) For any remaining tape, you can get a microfiber towel and use some rubbing alcohol. Pour the alcohol on the remaining tape and "rub" against it with the towel. You can also use your thumbs or fingers (but blistering can be an issue). If you have a LOT of tape left, you can go buy a rubberwheel bit for a dremel or rotary tool. You can use the dremel with this bit and use it like a eraser to take off the tape. Be careful because you don't want to mess up your trunk. The dremel method is by far the fastest and most painless way.

i will have to do this too. how are you guys getting the ends to stay down on the GT500 spoiler? adding a shitload of 3M im guessing....?

The one I bought came with the 3m on it, I didn't add any extra and it stays down pretty well.

3M tape is much stronger than people think, so long as you get the right kind (the "molding" tape).

I would be careful with the goo gone, it will play hell with your tail light lenses. I went a little ape shit with the goof off and it ran down on my lense and ruined the passenger side lense.

Goo Gone is 100% safe on pretty much any exterior part of your car. I advise strongly against "goof off", make sure to use "goo gone". Goo gone is a less harsh solvent and is clearcoat safe. If running or dripping is an issue, you should try the goo gone gel version, it's not runny at all but it's sometimes hard to get it into small crevices.

Never thought of guitar string. Great call.

I used fishing string and a hair bryer and it worked ok cause i kept breaking the line. One you get half way, pull up and it should just come right off or at least mine did.

The weather here has been complete crap lately and it never got warm enough to help soften the 3m tape. I heated with a hair dryer and tried with fishing line for a good 30 minutes before I gave that up. Popped the trunk and tapped against the bottom of the spoiler through the factory bolt holes until it started to lift up. Worked like a charm, got the spoiler off rather quickly after that. Got the new spoiler on. I did NOT drill the quarter panels, so we'll see how well this will hold up!
