It's not as though we all have MK 160's in the yard/garage that we can call on you to help with!

You know something I learned in my time, though cool, CIWS is the most unreliable weapon system the Navy has, if I have to rely on that I am bettering my odds and jumping over the side. For this day and age, 5" or nothing only truly used and reliable weapon system

I've been shot at 68 times this year, and C-RAM (land version of CIWS) has shot down it's fair share of the 107mm rockets. Not very reliable, but it does work sometimes. It missed the one that hit 15 meters from me, so I wouldn't count on it.

Yeah land based CIWS in the middle east is a totally different animal, trust me!! At least those are operational, majority of shipboard systems I have seen have been click, gun no go boom!!

LOL....so many things go into making a gun go boom!

Agree about C-RAM, we have to support the Army in that program which makes me shake my head....the feedback from my schoolhouse FC's that have been over there is how backwards they are in their philosophy...we have 1 FC doing the jobs of 4-5 Army techs...they seem to be so rigid that one person only does one job...wow....explains a lot!

I have heard from numerous Naval Officers that have been IA'd that the Army loves having us with them....we get an assignement and off we go...they give one of their own an assignment and it's spoon feeding...guess we are trained a lot differently which makes sense since we operate more independantly.

I remember 2 ships I was on were selected to participate in the rapid and continuous gun shoot they would authorize...and being on double enders that was cool but I never saw them make it to the goal of 50 rounds per mount in rapid/continuous.

The Williamsburg Winery, I love that place. They have one of my favorite wines, the Gabriel Archer Reserve. I highly recommend a tour and tasting, even if you are like me and usually drink beer and don't know anything about wines.

Great pictures!

Greg, you are right on the money with that. I'll back that up with a quick story.

They assigned me to lead the advanced team for our move from Camp Victory to Al Asad Air Base. We are shutting down Camp Victory and giving it back to Iraq, so Al Asad is our new base until we all move out at the end of the year. My instructions were to "go there and set things up." So when I got here with the ADVON team, we got to it and set everything up. Everything from unloading CONEX boxes and moving furniture (even safes) to running NIPR and SIPR cables or hanging signs. Some of the Army guys had thoroughly pissed off the local Navy Base Command Group (BCG). They came in and started barking orders telling the local Navy guys what to do. Being Navy, I could smooth things over and get things done like new door cipher locks, walls getting built, and other contractor projects.

At the end of it, last week I was awarded the Joint Service Achievement Medal. I was kind of surprised since in the 7 months I've been here, there hasn't been any other mid-tour awards. I was just doing my job, but apparently they saw something they thought should be rewarded.

Fucking worlds coming to an end and Virginia is going to fall off the map. LOL! First a 5.9 earthquake, haven't felt good ones like that since I lived in Japan, and now a CAT 3 or 4 Hurricane, wow!! We'll see what happens Sunday or Monday. I hope everyone is safe and ok, and I hope all stay safe through this hurricane!!!
