Put Steeda under drive pullies about 5 yrs again.

last Thursday Went to leave work and when I started backing out I noticed steering was hard to turn. I thought I had a flat. Got out and looked and no flat. Popped the hood and all the accesory pullies were turning approx 1/4 of what they should be. As I was investigating the back of my hand touched the
balancer and it was quite warm. pulled the belt and I could turn the balancer with my hand. Long story short went back to stock pullies as quick fix. Has anyone had this happen?

It has happened before, especially stock ones, but not particularly common. This is why at 10.99 a SFI balancer is required. Do you have a picture of the balancer? The bigger question to ask here is why did it fail? Perhaps something else going on. I would inspect your oil pump also when changing it out.

According to the site they are, with a lifetime warranty. All though I am not sure if they were SFI rated 5 years ago--but it would be easy to tell if it has a SFI sticker on it (like ATI or IW balancers).

OP, I think I would be taking a pic and sending it to Steeda to see what they say.

Good advice for sure

Does sfi actually test the products? I remember there was a discussion a while back that the SFI rating wasn't really all that what it was made up to be. I really dont remember 100%

I had it happen to mine, it was the BBK ones. I then added the Steeda and no problems.

According to their site, yes they test products just like other companies for Safety Standards/ Specifications. Standards are what the product must meet (built/made) to have the listing in this case its SFI.
Think of SFI like --- UL,ASTM, ANSI, CSA, ETL,etc.... Those are other testing/listing agencies for safety that products should meet. IIRC companies also pay the listing agency (SFI) to bare their insignia/logo on the product for the end user.

SFI standard is not an issue here and has no relevance. If the product broke and has a lifetime warranty contact the company. Call 954-960-0774 and ask to speak to Matt Levine. Tell him I told you to call. He will get the ball rolling for you to find out what needs to be done!

I think the diff is that it says it meets or exceeds SFI requirements. SFI was part of sema. I was under the impresion that SFI gets its money from the logo/insignia.

The reason why I say this is that my oil pump went kaput(spinning at stock rpm limit, no cams no more revs than stock). I did the research and found an alarming amount of people with the steeda UDP's that grenaded their oil pump as well.
