Ok, so i took the car to the track and it got a sluggish 12.463 @ 115.72
Here's the time slip:

.001 << dunno what that number is, time slip is ripped in half
60' 2.043
330 5.493
1/8 8.185
MPH 92.71
1000 10.509
1/4 12.463
MPH 115.72
Everyone who drag races all the time says this time sucks so what is it specifically that sucks? the car weighed in at 3950 and was on 20" street tires. What can I do to make it better besides take seats and a spare tire out of the car?

Well - your 60' time is poor. If your at 500ish RWHP (from your car link) you should be able to pull 1.7-1.8 60' with a better tire. Get some good DRs or Slicks on a second set of rims and you'd be in the 11s IMO. Your trap speed is certainly high enough for 11s. The 20s are hurting you both in traction and ET

.001 is your reaction time the only thing better is .000

IMO first thing is remove the 20's and get a set of stock 17's. Get a set of MT Drag Radials so you can hook and get those 60 foot times down. every .1 in the 60 foot time is about .2 in the quarter mile. You should be in the 1.7's at least on the 60 foot time which brings your quarter mile time down to about 11.8

You can drive there on the Mickey Thompsons on the road 3743R is a good tire. i average 1.60s on them but have been as low as 1.57 in the 60 foot

What size rims are best. looks like 17x10 is the ideal size for the wheel but earlier you said OEM 17's which i thought are 17x8. I have upgraded brakes all around and they are bigger than stock. (well the rotor is; caliper looks bigger too)

I concur on the 60' time being the big culprit here. The guys are right about ditching the 20s for a smaller dia wheel, with a better tire. You say you need to drive to the track, so a drag radial would be the obvious choice.

Now, deciding which tire works best for you is the next step. If you're running 3.31 to 3.73 gears, I'd suggest a shorter tire, like a M/T 275/40-17 drag radial. It's 26" dia will help get the car moving with those gears (and that weight). If you're running 4.10s, you could still use that tire, but you might also consider one a little taller, say 27"-28". Personally, I'd stick with the shorter tire, unless you run out of gear on the top end (and you wouldn't with anything under 4.10s).

The first time I went to the track with the KB on (back in Feb 2006), I was running 8psi boost, 4.10s and the M/T 275/40-17 DRs. Other than that, the car was basically stock. My 60' times were in the 1.7-1.8 range (with a stock auto trans), on a poor track (i.e., a parking lot). Also, when Ed (msgt46270) was still racing, he was running the same tire with 3.73s. His car would often run 7.6 - 7.7 in the 1/8 (which is high 11s in the 1/4).

Anyway, best of luck to you. I know I'd like to see you get that car into the 11s!! :thumb:

I ran them on a 17x9... but I had stock brakes. I've know people who mounted those on 17x8.

If the brakes become an issue, you may need to look into an 18" wheel/tire setup. Or, there may be other 17x9 wheels that can clear the bigger brakes.

Nothing really new to add--60' time is where its at. I will say that 93mph in the 1/8t mile is good for a 7.40 if your hooking well. That 116mph is good for a 11.60 under ideal conditions. I will say that normally cars mph about 25mph more then the 1/8th mile mph. Your close, at 23mph--but I would have expected a mph closer to 118.

Hard to say for sure, but that may also have to do with a shift point at or near the top end. That could scrub a little speed at the traps.

the second run (which I can't find the time slip for) was 12.56 @ 116.7 so traction is going down while mph is increasing? I only ran it twice.
now i need to find some wheels and tires! damn...

Yes, that is a bizarre phenomenom I has seen myself many many times. Spin hard on the launch, lousy 60' and ET, but MPH goes up. Go figure....

ok... here's my next stupid question. What size, bolt pattern and offset wheels do i need, assuming i can run 17's.

5 on 4.5, and try to get between 25-50mm offset. The lower range of those may stick out ever so slightly, but for a track wheel, who cares.

I would stay away from steel wheels. They are going to be too heavy...you want less un-sprung weight so you can rev up quicker...
