I have been trouble shooting this issue since Thanksgiving (has taken so long due to work) and would appreciate any input you guys can offer.

It all started when i started up my car to move to another parking spot in my driveway. Started up fine, didnt bother to let it warm up, but just moved it a few feet and shut it off.

The next day I start the car, it starts up but idles slightly rough. The exhaust sounds muffled with a slight rough cam idle. Code P0016 comes up.

I searched this forum and google for solutions and followed the recommended steps to try and solve the issue.

-I have replaced the VCT solenoids, driver and passenger.(which i was almost positive was the issue) but this wasnt the issue
-I have purchased a brand new Battery, but this wasnt the issue
-I have purchased a Brand new alternator, but this wasnt the issue(i probably needed to new one anyways)

the VCT solenouid on the driver side was a bitch to do since i had to remove the entire procharger to do so. I am exhausted with this car and dont know where to go from here.

The code also states timing belt could have skipped a tooth, but I have done nothing to my motor since 2 years ago when the motor was built. This would be the last resort since this will be the extent of my skills and I would just take it to the speedshop to handle.(i dont know how to properly time it etc).

Are there any other avenues i can try before having to tow it to the shop?

I appreciate any help I can get.

Hi, I think is time to check the cam timing itself, that is no electrical issue.

That comes when sync data is off but everything is read correctly and checked correctly electrically, you don't even need to have VCT functional for this to happen.

Lito, when you say check the cam timing, are you referring to taking off the front cover of the engine etc?

Uhm, yes. Hope I am wrong but all the time I've seen the P0016 come, is a phaser or a tensioner that is off.

No sounds?

Once there, if keeping the car, I would get the cam drive parts set from FRPP (2xx$ with everything you need, chains, tensioner, phasers with bolts, crank gear, trigger wheel, guides, pins, bolts, gasket and seal) and change the whole thing. M-6004-463V is the part number.

Manuel, you were 100% correct! I bought the parts you recommended and had them installed. The code is gone, car sounds normal again, but the car is constantly running rich now.

Do i need to retune?

no car was running perfectly fine when you tuned for me up until the breakage. its at a constant 10.0 flat. goes up to 14s very little. I drove the car for about 10 miles straight, no change, even after warm up etc.
