hid bulb question

Whats the part that's connected next to the bulb called? it looks like a rod just next to the bulb. And does the rod looking thing has to be the same color? I got my replacement bulb and it has a blue rod but the other bulb has a pinkish rod.

I believe the color of the rods determine the color of the light that comes out of the bulb. The purple ones are 12000 Kelvin. The higher the number, the less brighter is the bulb. I run 6000 Kelvin on all my vehicles. It's white with a little blue.5000 Kelvin is daylight like Mercedes Benz
