I'm running a calculated 12:1 with 92 octane, no real issues. I keep the knock sensors enabled and put max spark advance at wot at 28 degrees. Datalogging reveals that some tanks of gas will only tolerate 26.5 (ecu pulls spark) while some will go 28 without an issue. I think that at least one of the local stations sells 87 in the 92 pump.
For reference consider the 2.0 Focus. It runs 87 octane with 12:1. It relies on the computer to do it but then again so does a mod motor.
It's not a stretch with a computer controlled motor.
The most you can get with a stock stroke, stock bore 4.6 will be around 11:1 unless you do chamber casts for custom pistons.
