Just wondering what epas or a manual rack is worth on a chassis dyno. How much does it add to a Coyote based Mustang (or take away from a 3v or GT500) on a chassis dyno? 20-30 rwhp?

I think I need to get a power steering bypass belt for my next dyno session and do a definitive test of just how much a motor driven power steering takes away from what hits the drive train.

Would be interesting to know. I'll bet 5-8 hp on a hydraulic system. I'd bet they are fairly efficient.

On a Coyote, I'd bet even less.

Theres no way it takes 5 hp for hydraulic power steering when the steering is not even moving. Its less than 1hp, probably not even measurable factoring in test to test variation,

I thought it was in the 10 RWHP range, but I did some research after I did my rack swap. The company that makes them, Nexteer claims a 3 HP savings over a belt driven system. I love my EPAS rack though, I didn't do it for the power.

Yeah I don't figure it takes much if any measurable power to turn the pump when your wheels aren't being turned side to side

With the computer controlling the traction system it also stiffens up the steering for better feel.

Yes when you put the traction control in advanced. You have to have the brakes applied you hit the traction button and it goes into advanced traction control. You do get a noticeable increase in steering feel. I don't remember if it's that way when you just turn off the traction control completely.

I just need to save up the $1500 for an epas system, I'm boiling peanuts, selling off old clothes and appliances, raking leaves, you name it.
