I am looking to surprise a few folks at the track this summer, with my rather stock 06 GT. The only mods I have are 373's CAI, and a bamatune custom tune.
Is nitrous safe to use on a stock motor? If so, how much is safe? 100, 150 shot?
Thanks for your thoughts...

If you jet it right and get a tune for it from Doug you will be good, I wouldn't go farther than 125.

I would keep it @ 100 shot or under & you
should have a nitrous specific tune as well.
If your going to be spraying off the line you
should consider sticky tires either way too.

Should be ok as long as the tune is safe. Even though u have a mail order tune for it, I would still have it checked at a local dyno and make sure the air/fuel is ok before you spray it.

Local dyno??? That's funny. I live in Iowa, and we test JD tractors...LOL

I will have to check around....

the stock engine can handle quite a bit of spray, at least on a small shot. Start with a 75 shot. Get a wideband and a custom mail order tune. Watch your a/f ratio, and if its not right, get the tune changed up a little. (through email).......when you feel like you want more, go to a 100 shot. Then, when you get brave, and a GOOD, GOOD tune, step up to a 125 shot. But make sure you have a good tune or you will end up like me (car in a few pieces in your garage)

+1 on having a custom tune done over a mail order. i had a mail order tune for the first track day a week before my custom tune and found out my mail order tune was running REALLY lean.

+1 on not going over a 125 shot on a stock block. i've been at a 100 shot for a while now without any problems on a great custom tune. i thought about moving up to the 125 but didn't want to risk it. change of plans now.

With nitrous or supercharging on a stock motor is not if it will blow as to when it will blow. The motor will hold up to a point. Just be plan and ready to do a motor. IMO

Iowa isn't that far away from Tuners. I know of atleast one within a day trip range of you. I have to drive atleast 16hours + to find a good tuner :banghead:

With proper fuel and and timing you should, more often than not, be fine. It is the same as with any other mod or type of racing. Shit can go wrong. As long as you know you have the best parts and you are confident it is done right then it is the luck of the draw.

I ran a 125 shot on my 2002 GT for over 4 years, with no problem... I upgraded my fuel pump, rails, and a custom tune and you are good to go... I ran a ZEX kit.

I got a 75 shot on my car. Have not ran it at the track yet, but went through a bottle on the dyno dialing it in. The one thing with a 100 shot or more is you will need cooler plugs.

my car went high 11s on a 75 shot. Kept bumping it up, got it to 11.70 on the pass it broke. Had ALOT left in it on that one too.
