how streetable is your car

I should have expanded on my answer, and the traction issues stated by many above was my main point. I live in a low population county (10,000) on the outskirts of a small city (5,000) that's on the main (and only) route to a casino town. Every police force in the area ramped up pretty dramatically when that change took place and they got pretty strict due to the influx of idiots. It's almost nerve wracking to drive the car just because these guys are hiding around every corner. If you don't have this particular problem the car will be a lot easier to live with.

My car runs and drives just like stock. Except the extra noise lol. I get 18mpg around town and 22-23 on freeway.

im assuming your on a built motor?

Just took mine to pick up my son for baseball clinic and now we are at Taco Bell, next stop a hair cit for him. Only problem, 8-9mpg around town.

SVT, Kooks, & my tuner all said 1 3/4", all gave the same reason, the motor needs some back pressure for low end toruqe.
( & there is no cost difference between 1 3/4 & 1 7/8", per Kooks )

604 whp and it performs great on the street. The only thing that makes it uncomfortable is the suspension but that's the same as when it was stock power. I run 4.10's to but have to run dr's though. Two things that make it street able imo stock cams and exaust other then bassani axle back. Still get 18 mpg on the highway.

No 700 here, but I often question why I even have the power I have. The car drives like a stock car, but the power isnt useable on the street at all. Even after the car hooks then you're talking speeds way above the limit lol...

I thought about this the other day, how many times do I even give it more than half throttle? Hardly ever. Full throttle...hardly ever and I now have 20'' Nitto DR's now and they dont hook.

Im rambling, but the power doesnt make sense, however I love it!

This would be my experience exactly. It may not b 700 but its about 600 n I hardly use it. At full throttle for more than a few seconds ur really taking your license in ur hands lol. Tim I got 315 nitto drags n they're hooking ok....well better than a falken lol.

That's why Turbos Rock! Keep your foot out of the gas and its like it isnt even there. Although my fox doesnt have A/C, thats the only real reason I dont drive it much in the summer time. Other than that, I can drive it all over SETX.

A/C is a crutch. I still just roll with the windows down.
If I make it through this first summer here, it's goin out this winter.

As for 4.10s, mine aren't installed on this car yet, but I've put them in every mustang I've owned.
For autos, depending on tune I just put it in 3rd and be polite outta it, no spinning no jumping, and I avoid unwanted attention.
For a stick, I just roll from 2nd. Same thing.

So I'm an advocate of 4.10s in the daily.

Then again with my O/R setup, I get attention anyway...smh. But at least at idle, and at 60 you'd never know exhaust work was done, she's silent at idle. Underpasses or passing semis, well that's another story.

I'm at about 600, although not 700 it has great street manners. If I mash the pedal than I have zero traction but I only have 275 hankooks in the rear. Like mentioned earlier, if you're doing that you're putting asking to lose your license.

yeah im prob going to. actually went ahead and swapped the springs and retainers last night. well all but 3 as one spark plug has now started to round out so trying to figure out how to get it out before it gets worse.

pulling the a/c off the car is one of the major things im now regretting, along with taking the car this far. in the middle of winter it seemed like a good idea...

Did you go with a manual rack?

yes, the flamming rivers one. have pretty much done everything up front tubular, the manual rack, pulled the a/c off, pulled the evap stuff off, doing the springs/ cams, the suspension is pretty much setup for the track and having the rear end built. its pretty much turned into a track car that im starting to fear is going to suck driving on the street.

havent driven the car yet since putting it in but everything i read made it sound like it should drive pretty close to stock. from an install standpoint it was really simple although the motor was out at the time which obviously made a major difference

I got three tickets within a month of buying my car. After hiring a lawyer to make them go away so I could keep my license, I bought a Valentine1 radar detector. It has saved my bacon dozens of times and kept me from doing stupid things when cops are around. Once I figured out how to turn off X and K band (only used for drug store door sensors these days) I can turn the volume way up. If it goes off then it's not a false alarm. Next is a laser blocker setup (I can detect laser but once you're hit it's too late).

My car isn't as strong as most here but it's still an 11 second car. I've spent a bit on upgrades and have gone out of my way to keep the street manners under control. My only mod that I regretted was the adjustable upper control arm because it amplified all the rear end noise and broadcast it directly into the cabin. After I installed the DSS driveshaft I was able to return to the stock UCA.

I like the honesty about the potential for getting tickets via spinning the tires/speeding with a high HP vehicle. Too many people think more is better....and that is not always the case. If I was to lose my license I would have to hire a driver full time or I would lose my business. Great thread.

I found out recently just how far the cops have gone with unmarked vehicles. The first incident was with THE (not a) county sherriff - in his personal vehicle. He saw the rear jump out on a cold day. The second was another sherriff in an older Jeep Cherokee, also totally unmarked, that saw what turned out to be an illegal u-turn. I forgot (my drivers manual was chiselled in stone it's so old) that you can't cross a double yellow line under any circumstances. The radar detector would only be marginally helpful as I'm always very mindful of the speed limits.

everyone says upwards of 600 isnt usable on the street which i understand and obviously have no need for on the street but is it only because of the street condition- lack of prep or does it have to do with people not having the suspension setup for the power. I dont mean that as a shot at anyone just trying to figure out if the car has a drag suspension setup if it will help much with it getting loose. I know a drag setup obviously is going to make it less streetable but still wondered.
