I see that now:) As for shops not tightening to shop specs give me the names of them so I never let them touch my car :naughty1:

Seriously probably almost all of them, same way with a dealership. Here is a good example of the dealerships, took wife's car in for an ecm update and while waiting a guy was installing ball joints on a f250. When going back together he had an impact on the ball joint nuts and had them so tight that he couldn't turn the steering knuckle by hand. He backed them off until it would turn and called it good.

You are very correct...when i was a tech, i watch it happen ALL the time! I always got a talking to, because i didnt rush work and did things to the "t"...but not the case with other techs...most dont give a shit about thier cars, so they really dont give a shit about other people's cars. Its rare to find a place that isnt that way.

Things don't have to always be done to a "t". It becomes easier with time and experience. You can learn how to use an impact, that's why they are adjustable.

If something says it needs to be torqued to a certain number...i will do that, just how i do things...can it be done with out it? Yeah, because it happens all the time. And i dont always torque stuff, but most stuff i will. And ive seen lots of experiencef guys put lugs on and just crank them on there, so much so we got calls from pissed off husbands, because his wife got a flar and when he went to change it, the lugs were to tight!

So yeah ill take a bit more time, follow the specs and call it a day...not how you do things, awesome...there is always more then one way to skin a cat.

According to the Ford work manual the front uca bolt gets 350 ft lbs.

My shop manual (section 204-02-17 step 9) says 129 ft-lb

and yea, I tend to double-check anything that's been done by a shop just to be sure...

Thanks. I was looking at the front bracket to body mount. My mistake.

And to everyone else. If I can get a torque wrench on a suspension or brake part I'll use it. To each is own :)
