I am currently running a Boss shortblock in my car with a Vortech V3si. The fuel system is max'd out with ID725's and a KB BAP. The motor has billet oil pump gears and Boss valve springs.

After talking to me tuner today I am considering going with a fuel system and upgrading to ID1000's, then tuning it for E85. At that point I still have room to spin the little V3si a little more, maybe 13~13.5 psi (vs 12 now).

The car has haulled ass for a year now with this motor and went as fast as 9.80's. It's currently right about 700 rwp and I think this will push it a little more than 750 rwp. I think these upgrades will get it in the 9.5 ~ 9.6 range.

Has anyone heard of a Boss motor at this level? I put around 150 passes a year on it.

Obviously nothing is guaranteed, but I wonder how much these motors can take. The tune runs the af of 10.8 and timing around 19º on 93 and Torco.

That's a good question. I imagine you are concerned with having less main bolts and that it's iron and not stiff aluminum that's been proven to handle big power and was known to split on ohv motors.

I know one person who shelved the idea of a big bore because of the main cap bolts. It's really more like a 2 bolt even though they call it a 4 bolt.

Yes, sorry I should have stated a new Boss short block. But the worry is still there for what they can handle. I have looked around on several sites and have not seen much about the power limitations for them.

There have been pictures floating around of cracked 5.0 blocks. They get pretty thin near the liners and that's where they break. I'm pretty sure there have been a few threads on this site about it.

From what I've read at 13 psi, I think you're ok, iirc it's more like 16+ the blocks deform and push out.

I am only a little concerned about the block, but want to run this combo until I pull it down for a full rebuild.

The Boss rods are my main concern. They are a forged powder metal. From what it seems there's not a lot of data out there on their limits yet. The new GT500 rods are similar, they seem to be reliable to 750 ( or slightly more) rwp.

I guess there's only one way to find out...
