So, here's a question for the well informed: for my NA, lightly modded (no cams) GT, what can I expect from 2500 to 6000 RPM in the hp AND torque department from, say the Kooks catted LT, or the ARH catted LT's???
Has someone done back-to-back dynos before and after on an NA car w/out cams??

I doubt it...

I did both cams and LT's at the same time. I got ZERO improvement from 2500 to 4500 RPM. I also did not see acceptable improvements until I was over 5000 rpm.

Both Comp and ARH told me that with my NA setup I would see about 20 FWHP for each of their mods. If you look at my TQ and HP curves, you will see that although the peeks change very little, the improvements in the higher RPM's (5000+) are 32+. With about 15% (estamated) drive line loss, that puts me right on track for what the claims were.

Here is something else to keep in mind. The day my car was tuned it was 97* and 85%+ humidity. On a cool dry day I am 100% certain that the numbers are better.

I would say real world, you will see 15 - 16 RWHP gains with LT's on an NA car.

<<<<<< Doesn't give a shit about long tube headers.

But if I had to have them I'd come up with my own design and have American Racing Headers build them. Last two sets they did for me were outstanding.

Thanks, Marc; that's about what I figured. I bet most of the improvement for your application came from the cams. From the responses I've received to this and other related questions, IMHO for an NA DD, the LT's aren't worth the $$ for the hp return.

I think it depends on the headers and if you install them yourself. Getting them installed can add a few hundred to the total, which really dilutes the HP/dollar ratio. ARH, Kooks are race headers, which is included in the price.

I think for a DD some cheaper headers that you take a weekend to install are worth while, JBA or Hooker would be my choice though Mac or BBK are cheaper. The stock manifolds aren't bad, but a decent set of longtubes will outperform them.

It is no mystery that KOOKS and MAC did that well. Its not the first time on this 3v that mid lengths have proven to outperform other long tubes in making more power throughout the power band.

Some people just dont want to except it. :beerdrink: Plenty of full length long tubes were represented.

something else to remember about this test, is that mac used there prochamber, kooks had botht he x and h pipe both off road (didnt say which one was used), and ome of the others used off road x's and h's.

Granted with the kooks installed they installed a afterchiller for the t trim and pulled 600/533 with his mule car. With the MAC and afterchiller he pulled 580/531.

For the test Kooks won! for real world price per hp, I'd go with a cheaper brand. But props to Rick @ AFM for spending the time to swap parts and do the test. We all know that at 4 hours a swap for headers and mid pipes doing this test would take the better part of a full weekend.
