i'v always seen guys posting about bump stops in the rear hitting. i'v never paid mine much attention, i knew i was hitting mine alot and could see there was plenty of wear on the stops and the frame rails but never paid it mutch attention, didnt think much of it for some reason. may car rides rough....very... i always thought it was just the sportlines and how they are supossed to feel.

lately i been thinking about them because i was curious if cutting them would effect my 60ft times.... well i just happened to look at them this morning and apperently i'v been riding on them the whole time! like when you look at them from the side of the car the frame rail is sitting on them. even when i try to pick up on the side of the car i cant pick it up enough to come off the stops.

this discovery brings up quite a few question for me...
1 why i have not given this any thought before now? i dont know really...:dunce:

2. even with removing them it seems like there would only be an inch and a half of room between the axle an body. is that amount of travel normal?

3. how is riding on the stops effecting my 60ft times??? apparently i cut pretty good 60's for my mods (listed in sig). i have always notice my car does not squat much at all, again i thought it was characteristics of the sportlines. i'v tried so many different setting on the rear d-specs and now i feel stupid because no matter what i did to them things it wasnt gonna change anything because of this. i did not start cutting good 60's untill i got the bias ply slicks and i'll bet this issue had something to do with why i never could hook with dr's, like i was shocking the tire.

4. what do i do about it?

this explanes soooo much about things that have happened in the past with the car.

thanks for reading my stupidness.

Hmm. I have Pro Kit springs and the best 60' I can cut is low 1.8s on DRs. It's good enough for 12.8s but I wonder if I am having the same problems as you are j-stang?

i'v searched and only found people with mild lowering springs cutting the stops, maybe i didnt look hard enough. i'm just concerned with sutting the stops that its still ot gonna be enough to stay off them and removing them all together will result in some serious noises when the axle hits the car.

chad, i already have CJ springs or V6 springs rather, i just hate having the car sit a mile high.

i didnt think cutting 1.7's was a problem? can getting rid of the stops hurt my times? is the better 60's to be had with my mods?

i know mattd has run sportlines for a long time and had some great times with them, i wonder what he's done with his stops.
i think i'll take em off an try it out may cut them down real short od come up with something else to keep the axle from hitting the car. something fun to do this week end..

thanks guys

I also just entered the BUMP STOP portal of doom.

I run Eibach's pro kit but my rear springs have a coil cut off ( which should make them sportline hight maybe even lower).
The other day while removing my wheels and test fitting my new wheels I noticed the car basically sitting on the bump stop.
I am not one to F^@K around so I quickly pulled out a bread knife and removed 1/2 an inch off the bump stop.
I put my wheels back on and lowered the car off the jack.

Presto it sat a little lower and the ride improved a good amount.
On hard launches I can feel the cars rear lowering more.

this is the car sitting after the bump stop trim.
I might just yank them out this weekend when I get my new wheels and tires.

I used to have mine cut, but I replaced them. I can't really tell if the car rides more rough or not because of them.

I've seen where Eibach sells pre-cut stops for their kits. It doesn't appear to be a popular seller because they are seemingly hard to find.
