Okay, I got an idea. How about having a section for members to post up about what business they are in, or services they specialize in? Sorta like having a Yellow Pages with a link? Could even use it to help support the site by charging a nominal advertising fee?

I'm not talking about everyone having a banner or pics or what have you, just tell a little about what you do, where you are, and a preferred way to contact you. Referrals are always good. My daughter's school has something similar on their website.
