I have run Mobile 1 and wix filter on my car for 80k miles with more track passes than I can count and I have had zero problem out of my car. It does have a motorcraft FL-1A filter on it now though and oil pressure hasn't changed any. To say that the oil(as long as it was the correct weight) and/or the filter(as long as it was the correct one) caused his problems or Randy's is a stretch.

I agree that mobil 1 and wix filters are good. I run mobil 1 in my engine but I don't have VCT anymore.

Thing about the VCT rattle is there no real common denominator in what causes it..... although I suspect that it is normally low oil pressure at idle that starts it. Some people get away with after market cams and springs and never have an issue and some people have it happen with all stock components.

Just trying to help the OP from spending a bunch of money on parts he doesn't need.

Good luck to the OP and have fun at mustang week!!

I'll be changing my oil soon,so are you saying don't use the mobile 1 oil? the parts place recommended the full synthetic mobile 1 oil, I just want to make sure before I change the oil, that I'll be good with mobile 1 oil..

Yes you will be fine. Once again, I have used Mobile 1 in my car since brand new, it has 80k miles, hundreds of track passes and now it is launched at 5500 rpms putting down 430 hp and I have never opened any part of the engine for any reason.

*** UPDATE ***

Put a set of BBR cam phaser lockouts in and car runs perfect. No issues at all with the phasers. No knocking nothing.

I also had BBR make me a tune but it seems almost weak. And every now and then it misfires badly under acceleration. I think I'm going to go back with brenspeed again for the tune

Thanks for the info. I found that when I bought the heads with my cams it has the lock out already installed. Going to pull those off and install them on my new phasers.

I appreciate you posting an update. Very helpful in troubleshooting.

low oil pressure to the phaser, cam timing gets out of whack and valvetrain gets loud, increase RPM and pressure increases to the phaser and the problem goes away. thats my theory anyway.

Maybe the oil metering journal is stopped up? They are in the thrust bearing on the front of each cam. just an idea.
