ok fellas...help out a fellow mustang owner here.

Went to the track yesterday for the first time since car was stock. This car (2006 GT automatic) went 14.20's bone stock. I am trying to get the car deep enuf into the 12's (12.70-80's) so that i can set it up on a 13.00 index for a class i am running this year. the class rules are the cars must be naturally aspirated and NO power adders permitted (aka n2o, blower or turbo). OH the car only went the best of a 13.48 yesterday...keep reading please

Here is the list of mods and my thoughts of performance gains as discussed with manufacturers/reputable retailers-tuners. As of yet i have not called any of them (sunday) but you can bet your sweet ass i am today.

1. SCT tuner with BAMA race tune and C&L Race air intake
- according to BAMA car shoulda went 13.50-60's with just this mod.

2. PTC 3000 stall Convertor
- according to PCT .4 to .5 tenths with this converter.

3. Spydertech 1 pc aluminum driveshaft
- according to him "A/B testing" is .2 tenths.

4. 4.10 gears
- according to many retailers this should of netted me .15 tenths.

5. Pypes X pipe
- according to many retailers this should of netted me .05 tenths.

6. Jeg Stars 15" on all 4 corners (15x3.5's and 15X8's) w/ mt et drag 28x10.5's
- I cant even begin to guess what this mod should net...alot of rotating weight is removed from car with this mod.

My math tells me i shoulda been close to hitting my et's. if i were a tenth or two off i would understand completly all of the variables that go into a e.t.. i know of the varying weather conditions, track altitudeds, track prep etc.

for what it is worth the car ran the 14.20's in August 90+ degree heat. and on everyday hard 18" street tires the car went 2.1 60's.

Yesterday it was a mid 50's day and the track was GOOD..on the boots (that flat out DEAD HOOKED) the car only went 2.0 60 ft.

Now i also own a brenspeed 93 octane tune for the 4.10 gears. i forgot to take my tuner to the track or i woulda swapped tunes. but everyone claims bama to be good. i am not doubting that yet, i am just hoping for suggestions and thoughts. He will be getting this email in hopes to get suggestions as well.

IMHO a 28" tire is too much for an N/A car

What is your suspension setup?
Videos of the car getting out of the box are also helpful.

Were you doing each mod 1 at a time to see if there were any improvements or was everything slapped on the car and taken to the strip?

You're asking questions about running faster yet we don't see any timeslips.
We need to see incrimentals such as 60' times, 1/8 times and MPH along with 1/4 times and MPH to see where you're going wrong.

As far as your mods go you're overlooking some of the best N/A mods out there.
CMRC deletes and Steeda U/D pullies combined should get you another 2/10th but the deletes will need a retune.
Longtube headeds gave me 2/10ths on my stick car.

I'm not an auto guy but the wrong converter may get you running slower too.
What was the gain/loss after the convertor?

What was the D/A?

Expect this thread to be moved to the drag racing forum.

Hi.

Yeah 28" is too big. been there done that.

One thing about the auto. Launching it is THE key. look :

Mod = CAI + Bamachips 93 + UDP
13/09/05 2.249/9.102/13.991/102.339
13/09/05 2.192/9.006/13.885/102.688
21/09/05 2.122/8.784/13.554/104.597
27/09/05 2.157/8.789/[email protected]
01/10/05 2.063/8.652/[email protected]
11/10/05 2.097/8.629/[email protected]
22/10/05 ?????/8.625/[email protected]
29/10/05 ?????/8.664/[email protected]
29/10/05 2.113/8.628/[email protected]
29/10/05 2.109/8.554/13.236@????
29/10/05 2.098/8.571/[email protected]
30/10/05 2.023/8.496/[email protected]
30/10/05 2.027/8.490/[email protected]

Added 4.10 & Nitto 555 (street not radial) + UCA + LCA
08/10/06 1.951/8.363/[email protected]
15/10/06 1.901/8.276/[email protected]

TCI3000+Offroadprochamber+ CMPD + 26x10x15
11/10/08 NBT 1.81/8.07/[email protected]

So with the same car at start i always did better time, trying different thing to launch the car. the car was faster an faster without doing anything on it.
When i swapped to 4.10 my time went to 13.60 for 4 month. wasn't able to launch it correctly. And one day boom. 13.050 and the week after 12.90

So don't excpect to put a lot of mod on the car and right after shave the whole time the first time.

If you are hooking, no tire spin, and still only doing a 2.0 60 foot time, then your converter is wrong for the set up.

Get rid of it and run a PI converter or have it loosened up. What was your mph of the 13.48?? Is it making power, but just slow out of the hole?

With the right converter, 4.10s, and a good DR, your 60' times should be definitely better then 2.0.

i am getting 3000 off of the foot with this convertor on street tires. which is all they advertised it to be. i was getting 2300 out of the stock one. the seat of the pants feeling is there from when i installed it. the car went 101.5/ 102 mph. 2.00 60'. the other incrementals i dont have memorized.

after having $1000 invested in this convertor between buying and installing...im not ready to just dump it...lol.

i dont quite understand what your saying...how many different ways can you launch an automatic? deep, shallow, off idol, loaded up at rpms? now with that said...i put a msd 2 step on it and have it set at 2600 it is wired to the brake lights...so when i react it releases, but i can mat the throttle and react while lights are dropping. think like a bracket racer here...lol. the car did run faster leaving just off idol, but the reaction times dropped bad (drive by wire). ran 13.53 off the 2 step and a 13.48 just off idol. 60's were near identical though. just a much slower reaction with the idol launch.

as far as the mods being bolt on and go? why not? these are tested methods...especially considering a driveshaft change? gears? these are really no brainer mods...to me anyway.

the tires were suggested by doug at bama becasue he would have preffered me to have put in 3.73's due to the trans gearing ratio's. so he suggested taller to help imitate the lesser gear.

the delete plates i have heard pros and cons...so i wass holding off on them...a little. might need to do them now. im really just hoping the problem is in the tune file from doug. the car runs really fat at idol. i trust he will get it right if it is a oversite.

My car will cut 1.88 60' w/a tci 3000 stall foot braked to 2950-3000. But will cut 1.75-1.77 foot brake to 2000-2200 and flash last 1000-800.

As for tune Doug did mine also and it is spot on. Look into the lock up on the converter. Does the car feel like it's nosing over in fourth or does it still pull hard ?

You are correct though you should already be in the 12's. I've gone 12.84 @105.69 with a K&N FIPK. I do run a shorter 275/40/17 (25.6") tire.

$1000 or not, your converter is not doing the job if your hooking and you are only doing a 2.0 60' time. Something is terribly wrong.

On the other hand, 102 mph for a mid 13 is about right, so maybe your engine is just not making the horsepower. Put in the other tune and see what happens.

I know that Doug hates 4.10 gears with a passion and that's why he suggested the 28" tires. Something with him and that gear ratio. I'd go down to a 26" tire to start with. I also agree with some of the others that the converter is not optimized to your setup. Is this a mail order tune from Doug? Also, what does the car weigh? Can you post your incremental times from the runs or scan a time slip?

+1... he's been like that for a few years now, too. I don't get. Too many cars running too well with 4.10s to dispute their effectiveness.

thank you everyone for all of the responses. i do appreciate all of the feed back...i might not agree with them all, but i have to listen because im the one needing the help...lol.

i understand what your saying about the convertor...i really do get it. and the time might come that a change is in order. and the 26" tire deal is gonna happen, i dont think it is worth 2-3 tenths in the 60'..but it could be that 1.90 im looking for. which is gonna be .25 ish thru the 1/4.

i put the brenspeed tune in it last night...i noticed immediate characteristic changes. idol is not harsh, does not hammer into gear. when driving the trans doesnt seems notchy and speratic. it is not running fat at idol. the other tune burns your eyes when idoling. it is just acting more user friendly. i only had street tires on it, so i whacked it from a roll. maybe its just me, but it just seemed all together. i know the only way to tell is on the track.

so, im gonna run it with this tune first. if the numbers arent there than im gonna try the 26" tires. if that dont work, im gonna shoot myself in the head or get a corvette...lol.
