Thanks Dave, we will be looking forward to those pics. Maybe you can start a new thread for that?

Will do. I have a track event next weekend, and probably (hopefully!!) won't have the fascia off before then, but after I get back, I'll tear the front off, shoot some pix, and do a write-up on theory and practice. I'll start a new thread for it on the main board.

The install was pretty simple but with a modified race car there is alot more room to mount the accumulator but we installed a ball valve that was easily accessable. THen run a line that went into the filter base. I see that you can get remote valves for our type of application.

hey Ron, new to forum, longtime mechanic and machine shop, pull the head that was out of time, pull the rockers out, turn it upside down and fill each chamber with parts cleaner, see which intake and/or exhaust tunnel has solvent running out of it, replace valves that are leaking,, then get a depth mike and measure ALL 4 pistons at TDC and make sure they all come up to same height, if they do, you are good, if one comes up short, you have a bent rod, if it's bent a bunch, could be skirt hitting crank, making your noise. possible, have seen it before, used to happen all the time with the early 4.6 with plastic coolant crossover. Good luck!!

thanks man I appreciate the insight. I am going to do a compression test early next week then start the teardown

Well finally did the compression test.

Just a recap. The passenger side jumped 2 teeth on the timing chain. The drivers side threw a follower and scarred the cam a little. The cam was polished back and the follower replaced and the engine retimed

The passenger side showed a steady 150psi across the bank. Drivers side showed 120psi across the bank

I have no idea what that means. I believe the compression ratio of the motor is 9.1 or 9.2 If I recall correctly

My father doesnt think its a head or a valve issue as he said there would be little to no compression if it had been.

What do you guys think?

Could it be the same problem another member had? The chain tensioners were not primed causing the chain to jump.

Could it be that one of the lifters on the passenger side lost its prime?

I hate to say I told you so but in this case it seems like good news.

While it is definately a possability that it jumped again i doubt it as we prelubed the entire motor until it was spitting oil into the heads.

possibly. My father thinks we timed the motor incorrectly

Man that is good news!!!!:beerchug2::beerchug2::beerchug2:

I hope so lol

Did you try starting it yet?
its been started many times thats how we found the second noise

Not possible. We had the cams located as shown in the manual and all black links dead on.

To add to that the car was idling fine other than the random knocking sound.

He was thinknig we didnt have the crank in the proper position, but did have the cams correct. I dont know., He hasnt heard the noise or the motor run yet but the drivers side has less compression than the pass side theres no doubt

If we didn't have the crank in the correct position the black link would not have lined up.
