Hello all,

I'm looking for any one who has experience with either failing synchros or has used a short throw for at least 10k miles. It appears that the MT-82 may be a bit more sensitive than most transmissions when it comes to reduced shifter travel on the synchros. I'd like to have a guide so that future MT-82 owners can benefit off others experience.
*I'm not interested hearing about poor shift feel/opinion responses, I'd like responses to be mostly mechanical failures and what the related conditions were.

Let us know at how many miles you lost a synchro(s) at/
were you running a short throw/brand?
upgraded bushing/bracket?
Trans fluid?

my car still drives fine with the usual hard shifting into 2 gear but i lost 6 gear last time i race the car and i think my car still read 7k miles when it happen.

Now i drive up to 4 gear and have to slowly put 5 gear, once is in then is ok, same on six gear but some times is impossible to put it in..

Do you guys fix these shitty trans or only asking for research purpose????

I love how people say its a shitty transmission when in reality it's one of the best two to ever be put in a Mustang. The only one that comes close is the T56, but even that had issues, 1st, 5th and reverse always going out.

There will be bad ones in every model of transmission. This subject has been best to death already.

Mine is perfect, no noise when going around 10MPH in 1st unlike the TR3650, gears are perfect for the 5.0.

My car has 10.5k on it. 8k with the Steeda shifter. 2.5k with the Paxton making 622rwhp. Stock clutch and no problems so far.

I have a little less than 20,000 miles with my JHR shifter, bracket, and clutch line. I have about 21,000 miles running with BG Syncro Shift II fluid, never had a synchro issue.

George @ MGW posted that he was concerned about reducing the throw too much on the MT82. I haven't bought a shifter yet but when it comes to mine the 2 most important things to keeping it healthy was to replace the fluid and baby it till it warms up. Then it's smooth.

Mine went in for some bearing noise and they found teeth missing on almost every syncro and gear. Never power shifted and surprisingly it was still shifting smooth. Had steeda tri ax and bracket and redline mtl for 15k miles and 19k total on the car. Also the supercharger whine started at 2k miles.

Mine has 30k miles on it. I've had a Barton short throw for about 5-6k miles with plenty of WOT time. No syncros have gone out and my trans runs perfect. Only problem I've ever had with my transmission is putting it in 1st without pressing the clutch in when I park.

While I only have 4500 on my 11 (not my dd), I have no problems. I switched out to Redline MTL at 600 miles and am now using Amsoil MTG. My MT82 is working fine. Only other tranny mod, is the JHR shift bracket.

I have almost 28,000 miles on my car. Its been to the track 3 times and i make 3-4 passes each time i go. i don't powershift. i have the barton bracket with the stock shifter and i shift ~7,200 rpm.

my tranny whines a little bit when its cold, but its no big deal to me. it sounds like my old tremec. the shifting can be a bit notchy when cold, like others have stated, but once it warms up a bit its ok.

i have no problems with it.

I've got just about 20000 miles on my MGW using Amsoil MTG. Second likes to crunch when it's cold but other than that, no problems.

Stock shifter, stock fluid, stock line, stock clutch. 13k miles as my DD and no real problems other than the usual notchy shifts when it's cold. Plans are an MGW, line and new fluid very soon. I know too many guys that run that combo with stock axles, stock clutch and big/littles at the track and have no issues...said cars, pulling 1.6 60ft's as well. There are always going to be issues with some having bad transmissions, but the fact of the matter is there are far more with NO problems.

35k miles, all with boost from every power adder under the sun only issue was slave cylinder popped off last summer but mgw short throw and McLeod rst and this set up this past 10k miles changed the normal drivability of the car for the better haven't missed a gear or grinded one accidentally at all love it! So much more consistent when I first bought te car it was a notchy pain in the ass to shift though felt like gravel was in the gates lol

mine has 28k miles and it grinds hard going into 5th and 6th, once in it stays in. sometimes i can find a way to put it in gear without grinding, but i have to let the rpms drop and put it in gear real slowly and moving it around. i have no clue what it is so if yall could help it would be great.

BTW mecahnic at ford told me it was the clutch which i doubt, still have stock everything even fluid...

anybody know of a good mechanic for these transmission here in houston, dealerships charge way too much thanks

I had a Hurst STS on the 2012 5.0 and when I traded it in is was only a few miles shy of 10k and I had no tranny issues other then the shitty stock clutch was about gone. But that one made a lot of passes at the strip with 5k launches.
