ok so one day my step dad gets out the passenger side and shuts the door..and it just wouldnt latch on the striker...The latch is just not functioning, I can move the latch manual, but it will just stay in the same spot as i left it, im thinking its a spring of some sort thats broke........
Have anyone ever had this problem?

its internal, you need to replace the door latch.

If the door won't close (and latch) all the way flush to the body, there's a chance the latch got 'triggered' and thinks the door is closed. When this happens, the door won't close/latch, and you need to manually trigger the latch back into the open position. The door will work normally at that point.
I've had that happen just a few times over the past 30 years, when something gets caught on the mechanism, or whatever.
