I have an 05 mustang with 4.6 and a tr6060. I started having an issue today out of no where. I drove the car to school this morning and took it to lunch and back no issue whatsoever.

About an hour and half later I went to leave and I got nothing. In neutral clutch all the way in turn the key and all I'm getting is a click. No crank or anything it's not even trying. The starter is brand new not even 2 months old. The battery is good also only a couple months old and is holding a charge. What should I be looking for to fix this?

I did get the car started by bumping it and then drove it home and went to leave for work and same deal no crank. I really need to work this out ASAP it's my only car and I have to get to school and work tomorrow. If anyone has had an issue like this I'd really appreciate some advice.

The obvious suspects would be anything related to the recent starter swap. Make sure the electrical and starter itself are bolted up tight.

Ill check the wires I'm bringing the car down to the shop tonight so I can get under it.

I was actually having an issue with my 2 step I didn't think it was related but after doing some research I think it might be. The msd 2 step is wired fine it's been in the car in for over a year never had a single issue. All the sudden about a week ago it stopped working. When I hit the clutch the light still comes on but the 2 step does not activate.

I was thinking that since the 2 step isn't working and now it won't start it may be the clutch safety switch.

You are probably right. That's an easy check, just get under the dash and see if it popped out.

Weirdest thing I checked out the clutch switch it was fine all connections good and getting proper voltage. Check the starter wires there all good tight and getting voltage. Same goes for junction box and fuse box nothing blown at all.

Right before I checked all this the car decided it to start again normally. I don't think ill be able to catch the source of this issue until it happens again.

If you're hearing the starter solenoid click and/or the Starter Relay in the under-hood fuse box, your clutch safety switch is passing the "grounded" "CPP" signal to the EEC signaling that the clutch is depressed.

This allows the EEC to provide a ground to the Starter Relay when you turn the key, and then you get the "Click".

Follow all the previous suggestions. Worst case you're starter failed and since it's only 2 months old, you're still under warranty.

The starter is fine because as of last night it starts every time. I don't know what could cause an intermittent issue like that when everything is reading good.

Intermittent faults = intermittent failures. Check all the lines both physically and visually. The starting system is really pretty simple overall. No much there to chase down.

And just because the starter worked last night doesn't rule it out. I see plenty of intermittent faults in my job and have that moment, of "Damn, I should have looked at XYZ closer..."

I'd look for loose wires/connections, and considering your location, internally failing/corroded wiring.

Just cuz you have proper voltage at various points doesn't mean enough amps can make it through that connection to operate the device.

And since I believe you guys use salt out there, battery cables LOVE to corrode internally, and then fail after you go messing with them like when you change a starter.

After closely looking at it I found a loose connection at the clutch safety switch. The first time I checked it I guess I touched the wires together so it worked then it came loose again.

I ran new wires and soldered them in going to the 2 step and to the clutch switch and now everything is fine no more starting issues and 2 is working again.
