Need help Regarding Radiator Fan Sensor, semi-urgent. Pics inside

So I'm in the middle of some "intake mods" and i installed 2 x 12" slim fans.

The stock Fan/shroud had what seems to be a coil/resistor sensor.
A metal device with a coil and resistor.
its the first attached picture.

1) What is this/what does it do.

2) Then, In the second picture will positioning it as such be sufficient? or can i just remove this device completely?

I assume its the heat sensor?

Can i get rid of it or should attaching it as seen in the picture be OK?

If memory serves me it's for running the fan at low speed using the resistor to slow it down.

As far as positioning I would think just mount it somewhere that allows it to have airflow but I wouldn't put it in-line with the radiator that would cause it to heat up.

Ok thanks, so its not a heat sensor, but rather a resistor that is used to cause the fans to be able to run at a lower speed?

I will position it somewhere near the radiator support or something.

That's correct, the resistor soaks up energy that would normally be used if the fans were run at full speed, kind of like a light dimmer only dc, not ac.

Just be sure you put it somewhere it doesn't touch anything or in a place that you won't be accidentally touching it when working on the car! I suspect the thing will get pretty hot and could cause a burn or melt something.

thanks, i wired it up and placed the resistor module out of the way

Damn it ! That means I cut mine into the bottom of the newly refinished fan shroud for nothing ...

^ ha yeah thats what i was worried about. i thought i would have to fab a housing for it
