Hey guys, I have a 2006 GT. The taped pin striping on the side of my car is in horrible shape (as can be seen in the picture). I thought GooGone was going to be enough to remove it but it's not working out so well. It was about 70 degrees out yesterday when I tried removing some of it. Sprayed it with some GooGone and used my fingernail to pick at it. Slow going and most of the glue is still not coming off in the spot I tried out, even after multiple applications of the GooGone. Maybe it wasn't hot enough out. Does anyone have any other recommendations other than GooGone to help in removing this stuff without destroying the paint??

You're talking about those red sponge things???

I think I'm going to need some type of chemical/cleaner as this stuff is really hard. Like I said, might be a tempurature thing yet but the glue residue is not coming off, tape portion is (but not easily).

^ that or bust out the heat gun. The wheel is the easy way though.

I replied to your post on that other forum with a link to the 3m wheel that he's referring to.

Go to Vatozone or O'reallys and get the 3m wheel made to remove adhesives it goes on a drill

+1, Used this on my tahoe when I took off the black door moldings, works great and its fairly quick. I'd recommend going over the area with a light compound or polish afterward.

If you end up using the heat gun/ WD-40 then stop by Home Depot and pick up a plastic disposable putty knife (about 1.5" wide is perfect). You can use that to scrape off the warm pinstripe/dealer stickers/etc and it won't scratch the paint.

Not yet. Stopped at Advanced Auto yesterday and they didn't have one. Will check one other place down the street. May have to order the wheel from Amazon.

Ironically I was helping my buddy out yesterday removing the side moldings on his Sierra since they were about to fall off. I was so wishing I had one of those 3m wheels to get the old tape residue off. I have blisters on both my thumbs from rolling that stuff off.

Then he starts talking about taking the cracking pinstripes off... I'm going to get one of those wheels before we do that. The stripes look sort of like yours.

Hmm... I'll have to find out where it is. I think I recall seeing an ad recently that they just finally opened one or two in the Richmond area last month. Not sure where they are though.
