I was driving my car the other night and pulled up to a drive thru with the a/c on and while im sitting their idling the motor starts running rough so i pull into a spot and turn the a/c off and it gets better but is still not right and i also notice a popping sound out of the exhaust but it sounds more like a "poonk" and was doing it 1 or 2 times in a row every few seconds but seemed to only be coming out of the LEFT exhaust tip... So i drove it home and the next day when i started it it seemed fine until it warmed up and then started doing it again but not as bad as the night before... The weird thing is when i took it out and drove it it wasnt missing or running rough at all during normal acceleration or under boost... I even tried putting it under load by putting it in 5th at 40mph and flooring it and it was smooth as can be... The only thing I noticed while driving was that when id accelerate up to 3 or 4k and let off the gas id hear the normal racking off of the exhaust (I have pypes Mid Muffler w/ stock manifolds & cats) but also noticed it was popping more than normal (It almost sounded like I had glass packs but not quite as bad) Now its also worthy to note I had gotten gas about 15 miles before it started doing this rough idling and popping but luckily i only put in $10... So I went to another gas station and put in some gas and its still doing the popping sound out of the left exhaust at idle but the idle does feel A LITTLE better but not much and sometimes when i come to a stop at a light I think it quit and it idles ok but if i sit and let it idle for awhile it will start again... I know I probably need to drive it more to run out some more gas (Ive only driven maybe 20 miles since i put in the new gas) the car has 43K on it and I just recently replaced my HT0s with a new set about 4K ago... I was thinking It was bad gas and maybe it fouled or partially fouled a plug but it hasnt thrown any CELs and I dont know if I should waste $100 on ANOTHER set of plugs or pullem and clean em or check to see if an ignition coils going bad .. Im going to wait a little longer and burn out the rest of the tank but I am kind of doubtful its the fuel because it doesnt stumble while accelerating and seems fine when not at idle except for the excess popping when decelerating or shifting...Anyone have a similar problem or know what else might cause this kind of issue?

Wow, paragraphs much? It hurt my eyes to read all of that.... but by the sound of it, it seems to me like the first things to check would be whether or not you have a batch of bad gas, check the plugs for signs of fouling, and change your fuel filter, if it's been a while since you haven't done it.

Just a few ideas.

So it only stumbles at idle and makes the popping noise?

Yes it only runs rough or ""stumbles"" like it has a slight misfire at idle but the popping happens at idle as well as when decelerating ( It has always racked off & popped SOME on decels but it is popping quite a bit more now than it normally does)

Sorry about that I am typing this from my playstation 3 using the controller so its hard to do paragraphs as it only allows me to use so much space... So if the plugs look fouled do Ihave to replace them since they only have 3 or 4k on them or is their a certain way to clean the HT0s? Like throttle body cleaner & a small wire brush? Also I replaced the fuel filter about 8 or 9k ago... Do i need to again? I just cant figure out why it accelerates perfectly without stumbling but pops more than normal on decels like its missing & at idle it runs rough & pops like its missing.... Its really weird

Sounds like the car running a little rich...

Ya i know & i cant tellright now because my W/B sensor went bad & i have to order a new one... But i will say Ive been using this tune for 2 years & about 30k miles and in that time ive had ZERO problems... I mean the car has been PERFECT so i wonder why all of a sudden it would change... I would like to add that I only run 93 octane gas but only run the 93 octane tune on friday & saturday nights which is when i do alot of racing ... So 90 % of the time I run my 91 octane tune because its my daily driver & with how hot it gets here in florida and the higher intake temps i see during the summer days I figured running the 93 gas with the lower timing of the 91 tune would offer a little extra protection from detonation... do u think that could be a problem all of a sudden after 2 years ?

Found & Fixed the problem

Well i figured out what happened... When i changed the plugs 3 or 4k ago i was worried about overtightening them and then the next time I had to pullem breaking them so I just snugged them down good... Well when i went to pull them today I started with the drivers side since the popping was coming out of the left side of the exhaust & the very front plug (cylinder 4 I think) was only hand tight!!! So i pulled it, cleaned it and tightened it down and fired it up and she was back to normal!!! So i checked the rest and a couple others were a little loose too but no where near as bad as the front drivers side was so I tightened them ALL down REALLY good & shes running perfect!!! Needless to say Ill be checking them atleast every other oil change from now on! ... thanx for the help...
