Whats up! Im new here but not my first rodeo with a Mustang, ive owned an 89 (lost in a house fire) and owned and regrettably sold an 01 cobra and 83 mustang.


Heres a pic of my first S197 i just picked it up with 78,500 miles, flowmasters seem to be the only mod



So now the fun begins, I plan on doing some maintenance, brake fluid, trans fluid, rear gear fluid. My first mod will more than likely be a bilstein spring and strut kit

I see people like both the motul and bg trans fluid from other posts. I think I am leaning towards the BG.

My only concern with the car is that it has very very small amount of noise coming from the rear end that is concerning me. I didnt notice it until I was on my way home. I am not sure if it is normal, but will swap the rear axle fluid to see if it helps. I am wondering if there is any normal amount of noise here? I can only hear it whirring over 20mph and with windows up and ac off.

Regardless I am excited, the 5.0 seems to run very strong and it shifts really well. Overall a clean car.

Any input is appreciated on my above topics.

I bought my 2008, last October, and it is obviously the 4.6 and had about 30K more miles than you, but I "fixed" my rear end noises with a gear oil change (don't forget the friction modifier) and replaced the rear shocks and all the suspension bushings (except the UCA, which is a bear). The front stabilizer bar bushings are cheap and a very easy swap, so I'd recommend them, as well. All the wear parts are now 15-ish years old, on your car, so even with the (relatively) low mileage it's probably time.

The best "cure fluid" for the rear end is Redline Heavy Shockproof. Cars with 3.73 gears seem to make a little whine, the Redline quieted mine down a little. My loud exhaust drowns out most of it anyway. Bilstein makes great shocks but most lowering springs are garbage with poor rates and progressive. Look at the Vorshlag Track Pro kit if you want real handling performance from the car. I just installed mine after buying the car with Eibach Pro Kit lowering springs. Worth the extra for sure.

Even with aftermarket fluids that suggest NOT to use Addative. Always use the Addative. Its a few dollars for extra insurance.
