Well, I took the car for a wash, which I ALWAYS do myself by hand, but noooooooo, today I had one of those detail places do it. Because I was meeting a business contact and wanted the car to look nice.

So, they broke off my antenna. But the car is clean.

Tomorrow, I'm getting a new one, provided by the car wash place. Looks like Herk's famous Antenna Mod thread will get utilized afterall. I may print it out, step by step, just for good measure.

Did the threads stay in the mount on the car or did it break off clean enough to get the remaining stalk out?

I had one break in the Tundra and it was a PIA to drill out the remaining threads... (probably would have helped if I got around to it within a few months, but rust set in)

It was rusty at the threads, nothing left to thread it back to. I can hardly wait for this joy.

Well, a very small drill bit worked for me. I was making a pilot hole for a small extractor bit and the stupid thing just grabbed the drill bit and came out really easily.

I hope it comes out easily for you.

Oh jeez, a drill bit handled by someone else on MY car. I'll just stand next to them and watch to be sure it doesn't bounce off the quarterpanel and they tell me, sorry ma'am, we scratched your car a little bit.

I hope it goes smoothly tomorrow....I was rather displeased to see my new shorty antenna stub mod today. I THINK they had tried taking the antenna off, and then found they couldn't put it back on.

Lesson learned - wash my own car no matter what. Dammit.

I bet you're right too. They would run the drill down the fender as it slipped off!
I bought very short antenna's for each of mine. I still get great reception because their's radio everywhere around here. I suppose in the rural area's you may need a full length one.

I've purchased some shorty antenni in the past, but just shortened the last 2 with a angle grinder and some epoxy (that stupid ball on top comes off easily, but you have to glue it back on)

Well, this had a happy ending. Got a new antenna (although it will need to be pared down a bit), a free wash coupon, and they had it done PDQ. Now I'm waiting to see if my lunch is a go or a no....car's still fairly clean.

I will when it comes to lop the thing off and put the ball back on.

(that sounded a little painful, didn't it)
