I realize that but after so many years this is what they come up with? Hell the 360 looks 2x better this ugly box. Im still waiting on what the PS4 will look like but hopefully it won't look like this.

Oh, I agree. The Xbox 360 had a slick design. I also liked the Dreamcast and Nintendo 64 as far as console aesthetics go. The original Xbox looked so generic.

Just read this. Not sure how I feel about it.

The Xbox One may shut the door on the used gaming market, according to a report on Wired.

Microsoft's new system will allow – and possibly require – games to be installed to the console's 500GB hard drive, which locks a piece of software to an account, the report states. Once installed, players do not require a disc to boot the software. If a game is used with a second account, that owner will be given the option to pay a fee and install the experience on their own console, Microsoft told Wired. Whether "account" means an entirely new console or another Xbox Live account on the same console, is unclear.

Though Microsoft wouldn't get into specifics as to how this decision affects the used game market, the decision calls into doubt the viability of rental services such as GameFly and RedBox, and used game markets from major retailers such as*GameStop,*Amazon*and*BestBuy, with the Xbox One.

Wired's feature says that Xbox One's always-on internet connection rumors were not unfounded, but not as draconian as gamers feared. Developers will have the option to create games that use Microsoft's Azure cloud computing service, which Wired postulates could be done to offload certain computing tasks in the cloud rather than processing them on the console. In this instance, the Xbox One would require a connection to the internet – even during single-player experiences.

Microsoft says this is not a requirement for developers that wish to create offline experiences; however, Microsoft's Marc Whitten told Wired they "hope" developers utilize the tools. The Xbox One's sometimes needs to be on connection could evolve, throughout the generation, as an always-on machine.

Wouldn't doubt it as they were greedy with their DLC for games as the PS3 would allow up to 5 PS3's to have same content. Sony was questioned on this as well and I thought they denied that they were going to do this. As far as I have read both systems are to have same software inside as to make it easier for video game makers. So who knows they are being pretty secret about their systems especially since the release dates are at end of this year.

No used games, and always online..fine, eliminate hard game discs all together, make every new game purchasable and downloadable from the console, and drop the price from 60 to 40.

Otherwise, you are creating more problems for yourselves.

B.S. article by Wired. Everyone was also saying you MUST have online to use the new Xbox. That rumor was already squashed. You can still play single player games, watch blu-ray movies, etc. All Wired is doing is speculating to get people to visit their site. They literally offer nothing else the other sites offer on the Xbox One. Just the same information we received from the press conference, as well as the press packet with photos and such.

Yeah, you're correct.

I'm looking forward to more info during E3. I bet Sony gives us more on the next PS as well.

I could care less about form factor. I'm not buying the machine to look at it, I'm buying it to look at what it shows me. I'm curious how transparent the entire interface is. I like the idea of voice utilization and instant switching. But I don't want to be required to turn the tv on with one remote, the cable box on with another, and then turn on the box... too much like Google TV.

I'm really excited to see the interactivity with the NFL. I'm an avid fantasy football player and I love the idea of realtime updates while watching the game. Currently I have my computer on during the game for updates...

The Halo tv series sounds interesting. Spielberg behind the helm sounds even more interesting.

I cant find the article right now but the CEO of gamestop fired a shot across Sony and MS' bow last year stating that Gamestop was responsible for nearly 70% of first week sales and 20% of distribution, and if they decided to cut his business model out than he would not be selling them. 2 days later Sony said they would not block used games, and with a hot topic like this and release dates likely lining up with eachother, supporting used games would be a deciding factor on which one to buy this holiday season for lots of folks.

i was hoping for backward compatibility though. i dont wanna have a shit load of consoles, direct tv box, surround sound shit all around the tv. if the ps4 isnt backward compatible that will put me with 4 consoles near the tv.

I must admit I am apparently a bit of a luddite. I don't give a goddamn about using the Cloud or gestures to play a game. I just want to sit down with a controller and play. Cool tech for sure...but I hope it isn't required.

well the whole thing with backwards compatibility is just it isn't technically feasible. Both Sony and MS switch from PowerPC based CPUs to x86 based CPUs making them more inline with regular PCs. Now the problem this presents is that the only way you can run a 360 or PS3 game on next gen systems is by emulation.

The problem with emulation is you can't get real time performance, you need something roughly 10 times more powerful to emulate it. Even if they managed to get an emulator to work there is also no way it would have the performance to actually play any worth while games from the 360 or PS3.

The 360 had backward compatibility via software emulation. PS3 had it via hardware (in the firstgen system). Not sure why they can't use software emulation again. Especially for some of the landmark titles (Halo anyone?).

I hope they do bring some sort of software emulation out for 360 games. Cause as of now, from what I read about the Xbox One, I won't even be able to bring over 360 games I bought digitally on Xbox live to the new console. That's why I'll still have my older xbox when I get the new system.
