I had a thread earlier about a 0340 code on my 06 GT vert. I replaced the alternator and the code went away. I put the original plugs back in before ppl told me to check the alternator, they have only 28,000 miles.
Now I have a stutter off idle, I can here sort of a miss on idle, but as soon as I step on it, its smooth as silk.
I thought of trying to put the new plugs I bought back in, HTO's, but I started having problems as soon as I installed them last time. I know I'm being superstitions and the alternator going was a quirk but......
Any help is greatly appreciated !

My bad, it was modular Ford where my other post was.
Here's the story, I've got a 06 GT that's basically stock, it has a Ford Racing cold air, Bama tune, and under drive pullies, I called American Muscle about plugs, was gonna buy Ford Racing plugs but said they were for forced induction or nitrous, so I asked for a step up, they told me to get HTO's, so I did. I put them in, and she automatically threw an 0340 code, ppl at the other site said check the alternator, they were right, but before I put the factory plugs back in. Now I have an off idle studder, that was never there before. I'm an older person that's messed with cars all my life, but it was all big or small block Chevy or Mopars with carburetors, I can tune a Holley by ear, not so much with computer controlled FI.....
Any help is greatly appreciated....

I can't see why at this point you would need 1 step colder plugs.
I agree, these are the plugs American Muscle recommended, as I say, I'm new to all this computer controlled muscle.
The original plugs are back in the engine, I don't know why they recommended them.......

Go back to stock for the plugs. No need for the H2O plug at your level of performance. Recheck. Should be ok

Well, I put the HTO's back in, guess what, no more off idle studder, I guess after 28,000+ miles the plugs just didn't wanna work anymore. Thanks for the input everyone, but the problem is fixed........

I'm glad your idle problem is fixed, but still can't understand why AM would recommend running 1 degree colder HTO plugs being that your not FI..

Has anyone gaped the HTO plugs or are they gaped at Autolite factory settings of .045 ?

With the proper tool they can be gapped.

I gapped them myself, not to difficult if you take your time. Will buy the tool next time though.....
Like I said, been working on engines since 1981, there's a will, there's a way

I would guess that it wasn't "just didn't want to work". I would say that with fords great 2 piece plug design, that in the process of pulling the plugs, the porcelain cracked in the plug(s).

It can be done with a spark plug socket, screwdriver shaft, and a vise. Very simple process but you only get one shot.

The Champions he replaced the Ford plugs with are the ones that didn't work anymore. The old used Ford plugs are what fixed the problem.

Nope, no cracks, used the proper plug socket and inspected them before I put em back in, I did clean them, maybe that did something to the electrode, I don't know, it running great now, pass E-Check, then put the tune back in in their parking lot ha !
