The threads that I've scoured regarding coil overs are chock full 'o experts and I felt a little lost. I've also read our threads on offsets and I just can't seem to wrap my head around the spacial relationships of the dimensions. Plus even if you have the right size and offset, it's a question of will the Brembos play nice with the spoke design?

This will be the first time I've ever ventured into the world of coil overs. Previously, I've just had UCA/LCAs and Springs but that's it.

I discovered a setup that a previously active member had and I knew I had to have it. Wheels are Varrstoen es2 - 90% sure I'm going with 18x9.5 +12 in the front and 18x10.5 +22 in the rear. 255/40 and 275/40 to match. 10% I may go with 19s.

Currently, I have 19"s with 275/40 front and rear on Sportlines. To achieve the stance in the picture below I'm pretty sure coil overs are required.

Luckily I discovered an old friend of mine owns an aftermarket parts company here in DFW and is a dealer for both Varrstoen and BC Racing.

From what I have read in the past I thought +33 thru +48 was the sweet spot for Brembos given that the spoke design was clearance-friendly.

The above measurements of 18x9.5 +12 were verified by Varrstoen that they should clear brembos per my parts guy. I didn't question him, but it certainly made me wonder.

Any thoughts on that measurement not working? I believe the white car pictured above has 18x10.5 +22 front and rear but Varrstoen specifically state 18x9.5 +12 for the front. Are they just trying to play it safe?

Thanks in advance for the input, everyone.

Have you considered going with Airlift suspension instead of coilovers? If you want a stance lower then the Sportlines give you, you will have real clearance problems trying to drive that thing around. Bags will allow you any stance you want, not to mention a much better ride quality, with the ability to raise the car, to pass over any road problems. Bags are expensive but worth it in the long run. I wish I had gone that route with mine and I still may one day.

AirLift was the first thing that I thought of, but my budget for right now won't really allow for it. I was quoted $995 for the BC Racing Coil Overs compared to the $2,750 for the AirLift. I agree I think it's the best way to go permanently.

I have 20x10.5 ET45 up front with a 3mm spacer for Brembo clearance which makes them effectively 42mm offset with a 26.8" tire (PSS 285/30/20).

You are suggesting a rim (9.5 ET12) that will sit the outside edge of the tire out an additional 17mm. Might work but it's going to be close, especially if you are going to drastically lower the car. A narrow-ish tire will help.

If you haven't seen this, it's a great research tool because you can compare wheel specs/clearances:

I'd be running a 255/40 on the front. So if I understand the calculator correctly, it says there'd be 24mm more clearance in relation to the strut. So that means it'll be 24mm further away from it right?

The wheel will be sitting way farther outboard than most other aftermarket Mustang wheels so the issue will be outside edge of tire having enough clearance with the fender lip.

Air is the shit...It really is. Save your pennies

I guess I need to. lol.

If I put in the setup from the white car picture, it says 11mm less clearance towards the strut and the outside edge would extend 39mm more?

Kato - I must be misunderstanding something - 11mm and 39mm compared to what wheel?

Ah ok got it. When I plug those Brembo wheels specs in vs the 10.5 ET22s, I get 1 mm more inner clearance, not 11, but the 39mm further out like you mentioned. So basically slightly more than 1.5" further out. Might was to mess around with a ruler and see where that 1.5" takes the outside of your tire out to. Also don't forget that you can always ad some negative camber (via bolts or camber plates) to bring the top of your tire inboard (and for sharper steering).

That's a great idea about measuring it out to see. You're right it was 1mm. I was at the tailend of a busy as week at the dealership. Lol.

I know AirRide is the way to go guys, and yes, I'll probably end up "buying twice" by eventually going that route, but for now I'm either going to with the SR V2 or BC Racing kit.

Hopefully adjusting the camber will help tuck it in a little.
